Check fuel pump, fuel pump relay, and also check inertia switch. In ertia switch is usually located inside the cabin on the driverside fire wall on most Ford products.
first disconect fuel lines then drop the tank down on the ground fuel pump is on the top pull fuel pump out drop new one in,need to change fuel pump relay when replaceing fuel pump relay is under hood in the fuse box.
Start with the fuel cutoff......sometimes they need to be reset. Step 2 would be the the fuel relay.........I doubt that the fuel pump is not working as you said you can hear it engage. Let me know if you need anymore help.
Sounds like fuel pump relay. This should come on the moment the ignition is switched on to pressurise the system. It then is on a timer and will go off after a few seconds if the engine isn't cranked. Find out where it is and see if it is a normal relay (no electronics inside) in which case, the fuel pump is controlled by the ECU. If electronics inside, then it is the timer type of relay and it would be worth considering replacing.
Sounds like the pump could be bad, if you have not replaced it. A bad pump will exhibit symptoms like this sometimes and we have even had it happen with brand new, OEM aftermarket pumps.
look for power at the fuel pump connector at the fuel pump in the fuel tank (the wire that should have power when the engine is running or cranking over is White and Purple (maybe White and Pink,?). These cars also have a fuel pump inertia switch (a crash protection device, if it fails the fuel pump looses power), located passenger side rear of the engine compartment, just press the button on top of the inertia switch to reset it or temporarily bridge the two wires and see if the engine now starts. Fuel pump relay is behind the right front kick panel at passenger right foot well.
this is usually caused by rthe relay either being faulty or the wrong one? i have seen this before when one of your bulbs is out but only on quite old cars with basic wiring looms. i would replace relay under the bonnet/ in the cockpit (refer to owners manual for location)
it could very well be the fuel filter if this hasnt been changed recently may be a good place to start, also the have platinum spark plugs as imports and prefer to run on 95 or higher octane fuel.. hope this helps
