My 2006 nissan maxima starts but wont go over 3000 rpms engine dies off if held there nd stalls

have vehicle scanned for any trouble codes

Clogged fuel. filter.

Check engine light on ?
Could be one of the sensors such as the mass air flow or tps.

sounds to me like something besides the throttle is opening up in the intake manifold-the fuel could be shutting off also causing a lean situation-nasty little cars-I hate cars that don't preform properly-when it stalls does anything smell hot-cheers Denny

The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

run comuter hand held on it to get code look up code for answer could be crankshaft sensor or camshaft

Take it for scanning but I believe the plugs could be defective and or the air flow sensor....This last part is situated between the air filter housing and the throttle body, and has a connector with five cables.... It's held in place with small machine screws....Its a very delicate piece of equipment so please be careful with it.... ....If you have a friend with the same type of vehicle you can borrow from there and use a trial and error technique....

If a mouse chewed the wire into you may need to check all the wires. It sounds like you need to check the operation of the idle air control valve and it's wiring circuit. Good fortune!

Since RPM meter is also important so that you can control the engine from overspeed. It is also important to repair the thing your rpm cable maybe worn out already. If it is an electronic rpm meter cold Solder in electronic lead might be the cause.

I had a similar problem and resolved it by replacing the mass airflow sensor. Ive got 235k+ miles on my 1992 Maxima SE.
Still runs good but having problems with the alarm system.
