There is very little difference. The 0W-40 is simply a little 'lighter' and it only affects the engine on starting. Not sure where you live but either would be fine in a car that has on done 143000 (KM?)

SOURCE: type of engine oil

No .. the SE and SF grades are obsolete .. The use of 5W verses 10W is that the 5W is lighter viscosity oil

SOURCE: Engine light on 2001 Ford Windstar

Often the first CE light comes on for oygen sensors.
You can have the CE light checked at any parts store like autozone for free (they have a basic scanner that will tell you what the light means and can sometimes steer you toward the correct replacement part and how to do it yourself, if it simple.
I also recommend a subscription to vehicle manuals and technical service bulletins for your vehicle at www.alldatadiy.com to be armed with info whenever you go to the dealer. I never go without researching first. They will certainly research at your expense!

SOURCE: what would happen if i used a synthetic blend or a

No it will not hurt your engine at all. Actually it will give you a performance boost and a mileage increase.

But, it will also probably cause some leaks that you didn;t have before. Synthetic oil molecules tend to be smaller than their conventional counterparts and if you have any weak gaskets such as the valve cover gasket or the oil pan gasket it will find a way to leak from it. I would try it and if you experience any leakage you can switch back to conventional.

Many Passat show excess chain noise and wear anywhere from 50,000-100,000+ miles. Cars have broken the chains/tensioner as low as 65,000 miles. This is just a range of cars that have been reported, diagnosed, and repaired. The actual statistics on dealer repairs or failures is unknown and I've heard cars over 100,000 miles that, in my opinion as a non mechanic (most mechanics wouldn't recognize this sound and problem either), aren't noisy. From what has been reported, noticeable noise/chain-tensioner wear/greater risk of breaking is around 60,000-150,000 miles. Your case may vary. The most obvious symptom is a rattling loose noise from the oil pan. Unless you listen to a Passat TDI with a tight chain and one with a loose chain, it's hard to describe the difference other than rattling chain noise.
The reason the gear drive oil pump modification was started is because a few mechanics who specialize in TDI have seen many worn oil pump chains/sprockets/tensioners. There will always be a few defective parts that come off the assembly line and all mechanical components like chains wear out sooner or later, but in my opinion, the failure rate is abnormal considering the number of Passat TDI sold versus the number of reported oil pump failures. This does not necessarily mean that every or even most Passat TDI will have this problem, just that the reported failure rate is high enough to consider this part a design failure. Nobody, not even VW-Audi knows the average time between failure for these parts and the percentage of cars that will have this problem, but they changed this design and if you want to not have this specific failure, the only sure way is to swap to the geared module.

Yes

10W-30 is seldom used- the last 15 years

You can use 0W-30,5W-30

I only use MOBIL 1 Extended (walmart)

I would guess all GM Vehicles have called

What kind of oil do i use for a 2000 dodge carivan?

ENGINE OIL

You will need to use a 10W-30 grade engine oil, such as any of the following Mobil products.
"Fully synthetic" oils are more expensive. Conventional oils or syn blend engine oils are fine for the vehicle but need to be changed more frequently.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10W-30
fully synthetic motor oil ;

fully synthetic motor oil;

How often should oil be changed ?

That depends on the brand and type of synthetic you use, as well as the type of oil filter. Mobil 1 makes an extended service full synthetic, which they claim is good for 15,000 miles between changes. Amsoil full synthetic advertises 25,000 miles between changes; but only if you also install and use one of their super fine bypass oil filters, in addition to your car's regular oil filter.

Since the actual mileage you can go between oil changes is very dependent of the type of driving you do, the brand of oil you use, and the condition of your engine; there really is no hard and fast rule. That's why commercial vehicle fleets regularly take samples of their oil, and send it to laboratories for analysis to determine whether it needs changing. Sometimes it is necessary to change oil more often than expected; other times you can go longer between changes. My experience has been that, when oil is nearing the mileage where it needs changing; the rate of consumption will significantly increase. So when my car needs a quart added, it usually means it ought to be changed.

Regardless of the oil you use; if the change intervals are longer than the car manufacturers recommendations, it will void your factory engine warranty. That said; I have typically felt comfortable with 7,500 mile change intervals when using full synthetic oil of an appropriate viscosity.

I would also add that it is much safer to stay with only one brand and type of oil for the life of your vehicle; this is true for both conventional and synthetic oils. I have seen too many engines ruined by switching to a different brand or type of oil. Mobil 1 is chemically different from all the other synthetic oils, and is closer to petroleum oil in its characteristics. I prefer it for that reason. They also make a european formula 0W-40 full synthetic, which is available in the U.S, and is my preferred viscosity for all around use. It is not one of their extended service oils; but the protection is far superior to other oil grades. Not all stores carry it; but it can often be ordered from stores which carry other Mobil 1 products; and can always be bought from the local Mobil oil distributor.

What type of oil should be used in a 1989 ford bronco

Depends on how many miles it has on it, I prefer High mileage castrol GTX 10/40 Detergent for most v-6 motors or I will use the synthetic oil to get longer life out of it.If it is low mileage then you can use castrol 10/30 or Mobil oil 10/30 or Texaco 10/30 or 10/40 depending on mileage. If it has a lot of miles on it the lower viscosity will cause it to burn or leak oil.

The overwhelming response on GM Envoy forums is Mobil 1 Synthetic motor oil.

The recommend includes using Mobil 1 0W-40 all year. It will give you outstanding protection at low ambient temperatures as well as at high operating temperatures.

Envoy enthusiasts also recommend K&N or Mobil 1 Extended Performan oil filters.

What is a better oil?

High mileage. Synthentic oil will help but high mileage will do more. Synthetic is designed for higher output engines and for getting more power in higher stress. High mileage is designed to protect engine parts from wear.

It's not good to Switch back to Regular oil after using Synthetic. Use the High Mileage oil. It will help a Little. Still Cheaper to replace a Gasket or two than a Rebuild. Got 214,000 + Miles on my 95' Silverado and No Leaks with High Mileage Valvoline 10-40.
