If your engine has a running fault possibly a misfire it will automatically stop cruise control from working you need to sort out your idle issue 1st Check all your vacuume hoses around engine if V6 Check for loose or perished/cracked hoses If nothing found get a Holden Garage involved it may be cheaper in the long run.
SOURCE: Replace Cruise Control Switch in Steering Wheel
I am describing the procedure for the "On/Off" switch, I did not try the one you mention. Buy the switch anywhere ( about $15 ), then use a sharp tool ( small knife, screwdriver, anything ) to gently pry the old one from its socket. It is not glued or screwed in or anything, just squeezed tightly in the socket. Once the switch is out, pull the cable, connect it to the new one, insert back in the socket and press gently. No force necessary, it comes out easily.
SOURCE: cruise control want stay set
Replace the speed sensor located on top of the differential housing of the rear end.
SOURCE: VS 97 Commodore cuts out
more so the DFI module under the coils also swapp or change fuel pump relay with another relay in fuse box under bonnet in case relay issue the other relay to check by doing this is also the EFI MAIN relay near other relay. have seen these relays be overlooked many times.
SOURCE: The cruise control indicator light is flickering
The cruise control indicator is an intregal part of the Instrument Panel Cluster module (IPC). The IPC gets a data signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) commanding it to turn the indicator on or off depending on the switch input at the steering wheel. The indicator doesn't even show on the wiring diagrams for the cruise control. You have to go to the Instrument Cluster diagrams to even find the thing. Pushing the switch on the steering wheel momentarily grounds the circuit to pin 41 Connector C2 at the PCM. It actually has nothing to do with illuminating the indicator. (at least, not directly) If the cruise control is otherwise operatng properly, then it would be safe to assume that the control buttons and the PCM are not the cause. It would almost HAVE to be a malfunction in the IPC itself.
