If your engine has a running fault possibly a misfire it will automatically stop cruise control from working you need to sort out your idle issue 1st Check all your vacuume hoses around engine if V6 Check for loose or perished/cracked hoses If nothing found get a Holden Garage involved it may be cheaper in the long run.

SOURCE: Replace Cruise Control Switch in Steering Wheel

I am describing the procedure for the "On/Off" switch, I did not try the one you mention. Buy the switch anywhere ( about $15 ), then use a sharp tool ( small knife, screwdriver, anything ) to gently pry the old one from its socket. It is not glued or screwed in or anything, just squeezed tightly in the socket. Once the switch is out, pull the cable, connect it to the new one, insert back in the socket and press gently. No force necessary, it comes out easily.

SOURCE: The cruise control indicator light is flickering

The cruise control indicator is an intregal part of the Instrument Panel Cluster module (IPC). The IPC gets a data signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) commanding it to turn the indicator on or off depending on the switch input at the steering wheel. The indicator doesn't even show on the wiring diagrams for the cruise control. You have to go to the Instrument Cluster diagrams to even find the thing. Pushing the switch on the steering wheel momentarily grounds the circuit to pin 41 Connector C2 at the PCM. It actually has nothing to do with illuminating the indicator. (at least, not directly) If the cruise control is otherwise operatng properly, then it would be safe to assume that the control buttons and the PCM are not the cause. It would almost HAVE to be a malfunction in the IPC itself.

Disconnecting your Ford Battery can lead to Erratic engine behavior, loss of...

Disconnecting or replacing your battery can lead to erratic behavior in the performance, idle, and other related drive-ability issues. Ford did not incorporate the( PROM) Program Read Only Memory in its computer.

That said Fords Failure Effects Managment (FMEM) states in order for the computer to relearn its systems of inputs and outputs you must use this procedure for the vehicle's computer to re-learn its systems by using adaptive learning techniques.

FMEM Procedure:

-First, start the engine allow it to warm up to normal operating temperature.

- Raise RPMs to 2000 and hold it for two minutes. (needed for to heat up the oxygen (02) sensors).
-Then if you have a/c turn it on and allow to run for 5 minutes.

-Continue on with depressing the brake pedal once and let go - for those who have cruise control (this is for the BOO Switch- Brake On/ Brake Off Switch).

-In addition, turn the steering wheel half way one direction to the other direction and leave it there.

-Finally, drive the vehicle for 5 miles.

Note: GM does not have this problem because GM incorporates the PROM in its computers. But you will still need the battery saver to save you from programming all the presets and clock.

1985 380 SEL Cruise control column switch started smoking. Removed fuse. Changed switch and all electrical contacts test OK. Cruise control not working. Where is main unit located and what is...

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If everything is good then the problem will be the control column lever switch. It surely is fried that's why it won't communicate to the cruise control. I strongly suggest that you have the control column switch replaced to resolve the issue. You may get one from the junkyard to cut the cost.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

The cruise control on my 1993 Honda Accord LX, automatic 4 cylinder works sometimes and sometimes not. It worked three days ago. It wouldn't work the next day. The following day it would. Now it won't...

Sounds like possibly a safety switch associated with the brake or shifter is engaging intermittently. There is definitely one behind the brake because when you apply the brake the cruise kicks out. Try looking for this switch and check it out.
