300 is a random miss fire. plugs or wires cap and rotor could be the problems. 301 is number 1 and 302 is number 2 miss firing. so that narrows it down to those two plugs wires
easy way to check coil pack and hi tension cable, use a spark plug cut some of the threaded part to leave a 10 mm gap to the center electrode weld on a clamp , clip the clamp to earth attach the Ht cable to the plug, the spark must jump this 10 mm gap. Note don't run the engine longer then one minute as the mixture will be rich and heat up the converter
The check engine light gets power from the PCM - there is a PCM relay that gets power from a 10amp fuse number 6 and a 30amp fuse number 10 in the fuse box next to the battery. This can also affect the coil.
perhaps the neutral safety switch on the new trans is miss adjusted or bad.while holding foot on brake and holding key to start slowly move the shifter from park to low a out of adj. switch will shoe up by being somewere other than park or neutral like inbetween rev. and park etc
If the car is running good no engine problems or poor gas mileage I wouldn't worry about it. This is done as preventive maintenance. Every tune-up parts have replacement recommended periods. Ignition components, all filters and lubricants should all be replaced the most every six moths depending on how much you drive. Its all common sense if you check your oil and its black its time to change it. If your brakes are screeching same thing and if it been six month probably well over 15,000 miles since you replaced the fuel filter it'll be a good idea to change it.
