Be carefull!! Too much pressure and you might blow some component. Ten pounds pressure is plenty.Replace the pressure cap anyway with a new one from dealer. don-ohio (:^)

After checking 1996 ford escort pressure test on radior can anything happen to other parts of car if vice grips were still clamped to radior hose and the car was driven ?

That doesn't sound good, Usually the radiator hose is too big for vice-grips? If the engine was over-heated, you may have internal engine damage? I don't know if engine was over-heated?

No compression at all on a ford escort 1.6 16 v

hi there hope iI can help
well you must already have a compression tester
so all you need to do now is run one test
this test will tell you if you have a bad head or if your rings in your cylinder are bad
take your spark plug out and pour a small amount of marvel mystery oil into the spark plug whole
now pressure test that cylinder.
If you still don't get any pressure your head is bad
if your pressure slowly comes up you know you have bad rings
hope this helps

Cant find tdc markings on escort 1997 1.8

Click on the following free, direct LinkS. It has all the Timing Belt Diagrams you will need, complete with Instructional and Directional Diagrams to set your Timing.
To my knowledge the 1997 Ford Escort only had a 2.0L not a 1.8L.
The 1996 had available the 1.8L and 1.9L. I could be mistaken - my apology.
In any case:
The 1st Link is for the 1996 Ford Escort 1.8L
The 2nd Link is for the 1997 Ford Escort 2.0L
Compare/use.

Ignition problem on ford escort.

The battery might seem ok but I would take it to a place like Sears or a large auto parts store.Call them first to be sure they have a load tester.. Tell them the battery needs to be "load tested".When you turn the key to start it takes alot more amp power to turn the engine over.
I hope this helps you.

Tyre pressure

there is supposed to be a decal on the passengers side door pillar that has that information, it is a sticker and sometimes comes off. I usually run my tires at 32 psi for fuel mileage and wear, they seem to perform better at that pressure

What is the tyre pressure for ford escort hatchback 1996 1.392 cc

All manufacturers put the tire size and air pressure requirements on a label attached either to the driver door post, or the end of the door. If u can't find it, let me know.

Brakes

Did you try changing front brake flex pipes, sometimes depending on age of vehicle the pipes can collapse from the inside when brakes are pressed on the pressure is forced down but there is no force to release pressure when let off sometimes causing the calipers to stick on. Assuming that both calipers are new and not second hand I would try replacing flex pipes.
