Question about 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

the CEL GLOWS< (SES OR MIL)
you have to scan it when it glows, or its all a wasted of time
ever heard of intermittent.
CEL = CHeck engine light, not brakes, or other warnings.
my guess is you are doing the key on 3 times tests.
be nice to know that. ??????
or using and INNOVA 3140 scan tool that is REAL.
try to know that turning the key off, some codes are erased.
the key test (i call it the key jive test) only works if you are very very lucky,
its no substitute for a REAL tool.
not at all. not in the least.
its really just a toy. good for if stranded, somewhere yes.
but not used in the shop.
some errors are stored in the memory, if power to memory and the memory fuse is not blown, are stored, most are.
but NOT ALL.
case in point , CKP or CMP sensor errors
the PCM loves to rest them. the second they clear up
and does not store it.
I can show a PCM running on my bench jig
and show this to be true.
this car has flash codes (cel flashes. and can be scanned.
the latter is 10x better.

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I purchased only three months ago. It has already been in the shop three times in a month so I fee like I can help you with your problem. My rear brake light did the same thing and I just had to purchase the whole light socket. It only cost $13.00 from Jeep. I know your jeep is a 99' but the mechanic said that all Grand Cherokees from the last six years or so had the same problem. Changing the light bulb won't work. It will simply burn your bulb out. Simply buy the plastic socket that the bulb snaps in and that should fix your problem. It did for me.

check the brake light switch.
It's usually up under the dash, and it activated by the brake pedal.
There are 2 wires going to it. To test it, jumper across the leads.
or, watch the "action" sometimes you just need to reposition the switch to get it to work.

i have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee i had the same problem when i would apply my brakes when the headlights were on my brake lights would go out, i found that my bulbsocket was not making good contact with the socket housing, if you notice when you take off a bulb, look at the light fixture where you unscrewed your breaklight bulb you will notice 3 medal contacts-they should be silver in the socket housing and like a copper on the socket bulb, in the socket housing their should be 2 silver contacts together and 1 by itself the one that looks by itself is making bad contact with the copper one thats by itself on the bulb, what you can do for a quick fix is; get a small piece of low cage wire or a thin piece of metal like copper stick that in to the bottom or top of that metal contact--i did it through the bottom leave the wire or piece of medal sticking out enough for where it can get contact with the bulb (just a little wire is enough to make contact, now screw the bulb on and test it---it will work----i did it to mine, if you need more assistance let me know firstname.lastname@example.org

These are all the definitions for your codes.
It's hard to give an exact cause for these codes because of there are a number of different items that could cause these.
The first one could be caused by Incorrect camshaft timing,
VCT solenoid valve stuck open or continuous oil flow to piston chamber,
Camshaft advance mechanism binding, or faulty VCT unit,
The others are most likely bad sensors.
I wish I could be more help but it's difficult to trouble shoot this kind of problem without having the vehicle here in front of me.
P0012 "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1)
P0032 HO2S Heater Control Circuit High (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0055 HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 1, Sensor 3)

turn the ignition key to the acc or lock position with the odometer reading showing.
while holding the trip/reset button turn the ignition to the on position. light should flash and go out!
