Mastering Voltage Drop Testing with Pete Meier and Jerry Truglia Electric Testing Techniques You Need to Know If you want to fix automotive electrical problems , you need to learn how to first ! Find a wiring diagram and see if the compones you mention have anything in common . Power or share a ground . Do you know about automotive electronic's , control modules etc...
The body control module (BCM) energizes the park lamp relay. Current flow is from the PARK LAMP relay to their respective park and marker lamps and to ground. Ground is provided at G101, G102, G401, and G403.
Turn Signal Lamps
The body control module (BCM) is responsible for controlling the turn signals and hazard lamps. When the turn signal switch is placed in either the left turn or right turn position, the BCM receives a signal from the turn signal switch. The BCM then sends an on-off voltage signal to either the left or right turn signals and their instrument panel cluster (IPC) indicator. When the hazard switch is pressed, the BCM receives a signal from the hazard switch. The BCM then will send an on-off voltage signal to all the turn signal lamps. All the turn signal lamps will flash including both IPC turn signal indicators. The gauges also are controlled by the BCM
Fuel Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the fuel level as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the fuel level. The fuel gage defaults to empty (E) if:

Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on serial data message from the body control module (BCM). The BCM receives vehicle speed data from the engine control module (ECM) via the serial data circuit. The speedometer will default to 0 km/h (0 mph) if:

The first thing to do would be to check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM ,if none check B+ power and the ground circuits for the BCM . Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that knows how to trouble shooting this kind of problem .

Don't listen to this guy , fusible link has nothing to do with it . A BCM power or ground problem .

  • Lawrence Oravetz Dec 06, 2016

Where do you think the BCM gets its power from?

While driving all the dash instruments went dead. speedometer , gas, temp gauge all went dead at the same time. radio, heater are working , along with the turn signals and blinkers, head/ taillights all...

Well, the fuse(s) or relay(s) exist SOMEWHERE in the vehicle. If you don't have an owner's manual, search online for "location of fuses for xx year, model."

check park/tail fuse regarding dash ,park ,tail problem .brake light on passenger side is probably the brake globe needs replacing .Turn signals on passenger side could be globes or switch, check globes first ,if globes and fuse are ok ,may well be the switch especially if park switch and turn signals are on the same switch lever/stalk

I have a 2010 chewvy malibu and the thrid brake light comes on. but not the actual taillight portion of the brake lights. checked the fuses. does any one have a wiring diagram for this vehicle.

That is usually an indication of a bad turn signal switch. The lower 2 lights pass through it first so the turn signals can cancel the brake light as they share the same circuit.

2006 malibu taillights not working ,brake and turn signals are fine after i replace the bulbs but the taillights for night time do not work, Could this be a fuse and where would it be? Also the dimmer...

could be fuses, could also be bad wiring..but since your car ain't that old I would say fuses have shorted out.
set of fuses ain't expensive.
location of the fusebox in my '91 Chevy is on the leftside below the steeringwheel.

I have a 98 malibu and the taillights and dash lights do not work

dash and tail light are on the same fuse, if you lose your dash lights most people will check for the cause due to no speedometer, did you use a wiring kit for your application,

Rear taillight problems

I had the same problem with my 1996 Mystique about a year ago. The brake and tail lights stopped working, except for the center brake light in the window. Turned out to be oxidation of the terminals at the connector on the turn signal. Yes, that's right, turn signal. The electrical signal to the tail lights goes thru the connector on the turn signal. To fix, I cleaned the contacts and the brake lights started working again. Hope this helps. Cheers, Henry
