SOURCE: Valve job for 2000 VW Jetta GL w/105,000 miles
is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also? If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor. Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time. Good uck as his price is decent. Ask him the price for a long block?

SOURCE: VW Jetta GL 2000, AC - Heater Fan stopped
is your jetta a 1998 or 2000? the site is showing two different years. here are instructions for a 2000 jetta gl. there is a blower motor resistor in this system. there is also a fuse integral to the resistor. it's all one unit, have to replace the whole thing. here's the step by step:
1.remove the glove box (what you need to get to is behind it)
2.disconnect the electrical connector from the blower resistor
3.disconnect the heater fan electrical connector
4.remove the blower resistor
5.remove the blower motor downward
and to reinstall
1.install the blower motor
2.install the blower resistor
3.connect the electrical connector to the heater fan
4.connect the electrical connector to the blower resistor
5.install the glove box
and of course anytime you work on anything electrical you are supposed to disconnect the battery negative terminal before you start, be warned that you might lose your radio station presets when you disconnect battery
hope that helps

one is located over the battery, the other is located in the side of the dash.
First panel:
If you pop your hood the battery will be on your right sid in the front of the engine bay. There is a small rectangular piece on top of the battery with a lot of heavy guage red wires going to it. That is the engine bay fuse box.
Second panel:
if you open your driver side car door it's under neath a panel located inbetween the door and the dash board.

You may not be full of refrigerant... There is a low pressure switch that prevents the AC from actuating the clutch, and the reason is: IF there is not enough refrigerant, you will not be able to move oil through the system and you will have major damage...so no engauge...
Get the system checked, most likely there is a leak somewhere..
Make sure there is no oil leak in the crankshaft seal (transmission side) that may be leaking on the clutch
