How common is it for the no 1 main bearing to fail? Mine has on fully bmw serviced 48k 2011 x5 4.D. My mechanical knowledge suggests eithe defective component or oil starvation!

If your exterior handle lifts up in a rocking motion, it could be the small rod and clip arrangement has become disconnected from the main lock actuator mechanism. This was a bear on my M3 to fix due to the limited working space near the handle. If you're comfortable with removal of the inner door panel, vapor barrier material and latching mechanism to attempt to fix be careful and good luck. Otherwise I'd suggest taking to a qualified body shop for assistance.

If the work was done by a N.I.A.S.E. certified mechanic they have to honor the work as this is a certified mechanic who has been schooled and passed the test for auto mechanics. If you replace the wheel bearings on the passenger side it is advisable to have them done on the drivers side also. That is standard knowledge.

hi for main bearings it is stage 1 : 25nm leave for 10 mins then stage 2 its turn 53 degrees for big end bearings it is stage 1 : 23nm leave for 10 mins then stage 2 its turn 70 degrees hope this helps

ATF(transmission fluid)

Fuel filter
A/C micro filter

All of the above are to be done with inspection on the braking system, suspension linkages, wheel bearings, lights etc.
Coolant is to be replaced every 3 years, clutch and brake fluid every 2 years.

The rod bearing torque: Step 1: torque to 14 Ft/Lbs Step 2: turn an additional 70 degrees.
The main bearings: 42-46 Ft/Lbs.

Hi , I wouldnt say that this is a common problem but it is known by bmw , it may be worth booking your car into a bmw agent to get it checked, there may be a charge to check this but you may be able to get this part replaced as a goodwill gesture rather than pay for it yourself , regards mark
