Hello Virginia, it is fixable ,tank has to be removed and flushed all fuel lines flushed out all filters changed , and don't believe it ruined motor that's not true ,its easy to check take some gas in a glass jar and add sugar to it and see what happens NOTHING it just clogs every thing up . good luck ,I hope this was helpful .

It is possible that the Vapor recovery system (VRS) does not like your opening the gas cap while running the car. It also doesn't like over filling the tank, as both of these situations cause it to think there is a vapor problem and sends a signal the computer making the fuel system freak out. and it is ussually not strong enough of a problem to set off the engine light. Have a diag done, and reset the code, if one is found. Most part stores will do this. If the VRS is severely compromised , then a new one is in need. Did you also note a small drop in MPG?
Hello: look in the trunk on the side where the fuel door is. there may be a manual release handle to open it. Then check your fuse box(s) and see if you have any open fuses.
then see if you can remove the switch and test it . if you dont know how to do this please take it to someone who can test this for you.
on an 06 kia with a problem like that i would just have the dealer fix it really quick for you.
the problem is the fuses or the switch for sure.
