Hi there. I have a 2.0 XT Forester Automatic. Resently the eco light on the dash started flashing and the car does not seem to change gears. The car just stays one gear. What could the problem be?

Check the transmission fluid, make sure it has plenty in it. You didn't mention what year it is but if you have very many miles on it the fluid should be changed around 25 thousand miles. The filter on the transmission could be clogged. With out seeing the car it is hard to tell. You should be able to get a code if there is a transmission problem. Have someone hook a code scanner to and see. I hope this is helpful. Giving such information as mileage, regular maintenance, year, make model, all help us give you a better diagnosis.

The engine light is on steady and the cruise light is flashing on my MY07 subaru forester XT. The manual says to take it to a dealer. Any ideas?

go to a major auto parts store and ask them to read out the trouble code that is waiting in the cars computer memory. They will do it for free.

What does the A/T eco switch do in my 2002 forester XT

It seems to turn the Eco light on in the dashboard. It doesn't really affect anything in the ECU of the car. Its used to show you if you are driving economically. Accelerate hard or go over 110 km/hr and the light will turn off even if the switch is on. The hold button keeps the car out of first gear so it will take off in 2nd and will try to change to 3rd or 4th as soon as possible to stop sliding on snow or ice. Hope this helps.
