Saturn Ion 3 ignition cylinder lock. I just went to the store and pulled into the parking lot. I went to turn off my car, and the key would not turn to shut the car off. I had to drive home to I went to another site where there are numerous complaints on this problem for the Ion 3 ignition cylinder lock. I managed to drive my car back to my house where my boyfriend had to disconnect wires to shut my car off. I am trying to figure (well, my boyfriend is) out how to pull out the ignition cylinder lock to try to replace this. This is not going to be good PR for Saturn if they don't honor out of warranty cars on this (mine is out of warranty by just 14 days). I am wondering if someone knows how to remove the keyed tumbler from the ignition lock?

Thank you both for your quick reply and suggestions. I'm not even sure how to get the car started to take it to Saturn. The key won't go back in the ignition, so maybe the graphite suggestion would work for that?

Either way, I am going to call Saturn tomorrow and if they give me a problem .. the 1-800 number. I didn't even mention how little I drove my car. The warranty may be up, but there is only 23,000 miles on my car.

before you pull the lock cylinder go to a hardware store nd buy a tube of dry graphite powder lock lube.

Im thinking your going to be ok as far as warranty repair,if your dealers service dept is insensitive, call Saturn assist @ 1.800.553.6000 On to the ignition switch ....separate colum halves with #2 screwdriver> access ignition housing and look for trip slot on top side of cylinder>use pocket size screwdriver to trip button in slot while in ACC position and pull out...good luck

I have an 2005 Saturn Ion 2 that the ignition won't give me my keys when I shut off the car. Any ideas??

This could be an ignition key placement problem! Most cars get worn out with the key start. I have replaced the "switch" with the keys on numerous cars. They have tumblers like all locks, when these become worn or loose their place, they will not allow the function to work properly. It is not in the correct place to allow the key to come out. Some try to keep the car in the starting position etc. Other's will not turn the car completely off, and you will draw down the battery. Check this out with either a dealer or take it to Auto-zone/Napa etc. They sell this replacement key switch.

1999 Volvo S40 cannot remove key

What make vehicle ? Most all vehicles have a safety system .Don't try an force anything you'll break it !
Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator: If the vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission and a floor mounted console gear shift, it has an ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator purpose is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in any position other than PARK and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. They also have this on column mounted shifters !

Were is the ignition switch on a 2003 saturn ion

The Ignition starter switch is located directly to the rear of the ignition lock cylinder and it is directly actuated by the lock cylinder. You must remove the outer covers of the column to replace it. Below is a picture of the switch. Use the OEM part as it is far better than aftermarket parts and about the same price.

How do I change the ignition switch in my 93 plymouth van?

FIRST OF ALL, TURN OFF RADIO,DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. IF EQUIPPED WITH TILT STEERING COLUMN,REMOVE TILT LEVER.CAREFULLY REMOVE THE UPPER AND LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVERS. REMOVE THE 3 TAMPER PROOF TORX IGNITION SWITCH MOUNTING SCREWS USING SNAP ON TOOL TTXR15A2 OR EQUIVALENT. GENTLY PULL THE SWITCH AWAY FROM THE COLUMN AND REMOVE THE 2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. WITH THE KEY IN THE LOCK POSITION, DEPRESS THE KEY CYLINDER RETAINING PIN FLUSH WITH THE KEY CYLINDER SURFACE. ROTATE THE KEY CLOCKWISE TO THE OFF POSITION THE KEY CYLINDER SHOULD NOW BE UNSEATED. ROTATE THE KEY CYLINDER COUNTER CLOCKWISE BACK TO THE LOCK POSITION, AND REMOVE THE LOCK CYLINDER. ( TO INSTALL ) CONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. BE SURE THE CONNECTORS ARE SECURELY LOCKED IN PLACE. MOUNT THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE COLUMN 3 SCREWS FOR VECHICLES WITH THE TILT STEERING COLUMN THE SHIFTER MUST BE IN THE PARK POSITION AND THE PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN AND THE COLUMN LOCK FLAG MUST BE INDEXED BEFORE THE SWITCH IS INSTALLED. PLACE SHIFTER IN THE PARK POSITION. PLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE LOCK POSITION. THE SWITCH IS IN THE LOCK POSITION WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK FLAG IS PARALLEL TO THE IGNITION SWITCH TERMINALS. POSITION THE PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN OF THE IGNITION SWITCH SO IT ENGAGES THE STEERING COLUMN PARK LOCK SLIDER LINKAGE. APPLY A LIGHT COATING OF GREASE TO THE PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN AND THE COLUMN LOCK FLAG. POSITION THE IGNITION SWITCH AGAINST THE LOCK HOUSING OPENING ON THE STEERING COLUMN. BE SURE THE SWITCH PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN ENTERS THE SLOT IN THE PARK LOCK SLIDER LINKAGE INSTALL THE RETAINING SCREW AND BRACKET. TORQUE THE SCREW TO 26 INCH LBS. INSTALL THE STEERING COLUMN COVERS AND THE TILT LEVER IF REMOVED. WITH THE KEY CYLINDER AND THE IGNITION IN THE LOCK POSITION INSTALL THE KEY CYLINDER INTO THE SWITCH UNTIL IT BOTTOMS. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE AND THE CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR PROPER OPERATION OF HALO LIGHT SHIFT LOCK IF EQUIPPED AND COLUMN LOCK.ALSO CHECK FOR PROPER OPERATION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH ACCESSORY, LOCK OFF, RUN AND START FUNCTIONS.

Saturn L-100 and the key will not turn in ignition

THE PINS IN THE LOCK CYLINDER ARE STICKING, BUY SOME GRAPHITE POWDER LOCK CYLINDER LUBE FROM ANY LOCK SHOP OR HARDWARE STORE, SPRAY IT INTO THE CYLINDER AND WORK THE KEY IN AND OUT OF THE CYLINDER, IF THIS DOESN'T DO IT U WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION KEY LOCK CYLINDER.
