If you have the 3 cylinder engine, the firing order is 1/3/2. The distributor rotation is counter-clockwise looking at it from above, and the #1 spark plug wire goes on the distributor pin closest to the driver side fender.
If you have the 4 cylinder engine, the firing order is 1/3/4/2. The distributor rotation is also counter-clockwise, and the #1 wire goes on the distributor pin closest to the front passenger headlight.
Hope this helps!

I need to know where the plug wires go.from spark plug to distibuter cap on a 1986 4.1 coupe deville(cad.)

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. Need a diagram for the firing order for a 1998 Dodge durango 5.2 engine. I think I mixed the wires up. Help!

Firing Orders NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement.
If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed and installed improperly and then rewired. The new wiring arrangement would maintain the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes of the current plug wire locations and orientation of the distributor cap.

Just changed out my spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Now the car wont start, what is the problem ?

Recheck the firing order of the spark plugs and wires. you might have connected them wrong. Can't tell you the firing order since I don't know what kind, make, or year of your vehicle.

Exact spark plug wire placement

Turn the crankshaft till the timing mark is at 0...Check where the rotor points...if towards the back of the engine, turn one more time till it points to front. It is now at #1 on cap. Plugs are 1357 on left bank, 2468 on right. order is 18436572 in that order around cap in the direction the rotor turns when cranking.

Cap only goes on one way. Food for thought when you chg. cap or wires one at a time is the rule even for a seasoned mechanic.
