Id take a look at my oil fill cap. See if there is a coffee colored foam on it. Then check the dip stick and coolant over flow reservoir. If its not burning or leaking, chances are its going somewheres else. The coolant system is a likely suspect. Good luck.Id take a look at my oil fill cap. See if there is a coffee colored foam on it. If it's 5.2 or 5.9 engine, the intake manifold plenum pan gasket may be drawing oil from lifter valley of engine..remove air cleaner and check down inside manifold with throttle plates wide open and look for oil pooling inside intake..if there is oil in there, you to remove intake manifold and replace gasket and bolts holding rectangular pan to bottom of intake..you will need intake gaskets as well..suggest going to dealer for parts..fairly inexpensive as well..i hope this helps

V8 BMW engine 4.4L and 4.8L have a common problem in drying after burning the valve steam seals in cylinder head, witch cause internal oil leak from the valves to the top of the pistons then the oil burns throw the exhaust valves explain the smoke from the tail pipe.
the issue will continue and will get worse with time until you replace the valve steam seals, $1500-$2500 mostly in labor, a BMW mechanic most have a special tool to do the job with out removing the cylinder heads, it's time consuming.
Always low? even if you have an oil change? If it's low at oil change, the mechanics don't say anything? Do you do it yourself? Do you change the filter yourself? The filter "absorbs" a half quart or so, if that is your perceived always low. Perhaps you have the wrong dipstick for measuring oil level? Otherwise, if you have oil in your Cooling fluid you have a head gasket problem between oil channels and cooling fluid. Greater failure may be eminent.
Oil pressure and oil level are two different creatures.
your oil gauge determines oil pressure while the oil can (red light on dash) indicates oil levels.
There are usually two different sensors but can gauge the same types of things. E.G. - If your oil is so low that your pressure gauge is affected this can cause engine failure. Thus--a good rule of thumb is to check your oil once a week as the oil pressure gauge and red oil can may not always work as intended.
This is normally caused by a bad set of rings or valves leaking. The oil is burning off or escaping through the exhaust. Make sure you check between the Transmission and engine area for any sign of oil which would indicate a leak in the Rear seal.
unfortunatly this is extremely common on saturn s series vehicles
i have 10 years experience with saturns and the only way to fix it for good is to replace the engine
at the saturn dealer we would attempt this fix several different ways engine rebuilds with new pistons, rings, bearings, etc.
we also put used engines in them-sometimes it would work-it always depended on how old and how many miles the used engine had o it. my advice is to either get rid off the car before the engine locks up or religiously check the oil once a week
i had a 2002 corolla that burned 4 qts of oil a week but still got 33 mpg,i kept oil in it and it ran great
If it were me I would check it atleast every three months or every time i took it on a long trip. Are you having problems with it going low or trans slipping?
Sounds like the (oil rings) on the pistons are letting the oil slip by in the cylinders and you are burning the oil out. Remove the spark plugs and look at each one of them. By that you can tell which cylinder is burning the oil. Make sure you have no oil leaks from under the engine. Another thing to look for is blue smoke from the exhaust pipes. Hope this will help you.
If the car is smoking through the muffler then its burning the oil if not, check for a loose engine filter or leaky oil pressure sensor that leaks only when the car is running.
Id take a look at my oil fill cap. See if there is a coffee colored foam on it. Then check the dip stick and coolant over flow reservoir. If its not burning or leaking, chances are its going somewheres else. The coolant system is a likely suspect. Good luck.
