There are 4 main areas that may fail. Power. Earth / grounding. Wiring or switch. Globe. Start with the globe and its holder. May sure it is clean and conductive. You can test the globe by using a piece wire and a 9 volt battery. The next step is to find out if you are getting power to the globe holder. Check to see if the fuse or fuseable link / wire is in tack or "blown". After that check the switch located on or around the brake pedal. This can also be mounted on the master cylinder sometimes on the engine bay firewall. Last of all and especially if the fuse is blown check the wiring for wear / rubbing and shorting out to the chassis / earthing. Hope this helps.
Could be a bad brake light switch ! You'll find the brake light switch on top of the brake pedal arm or linkage. Lay on the floor board an look up under the dash . There may be an insulator panel that needs to removed to see up under the dash . A wiring diagram would help , so you know which wire's to test .If your in the US you can find free wiring diagrams at http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html .
There are also videos on youtube for basic automotive electrical testing .
Check your brake light switch that is attached to the brake pedal, could be loose or bad.
