First of all, the new fuel pump may be bad. disconnect line at fuel filter where it goes through filter. and see if fuel flows, or have someone to put hand flat on bottom of tank and try to start car. if fuel pump is working you will feel a vibration on tank. if it does not work, check the fuel pump fuse in fuse box before you exchange it.and or the fuel pump relay! when car is running it runs constantly, when you simply turn key to on position, it runs for about 3 seconds(until fuel pressure in line comes up. and then cycles off.
I assume you put fuel in the tank. This car uses a small high pressure fuel pump to pump gas to the engine, this pump is located inside the fuel tank, the tiny pump depends on the gas it sits in for cooling and for lubrication, if you run out of gas you quickly damage the pump, in fact any time you run below 1/8 tank you cause it to run hot, so you might get away with running out of gas once or twice by you always run the risk of the pump freezing up from lack of lubrication and cooling when you run out of gas, which is what you have likely done.
Hi!!It sounds like your fuel pump is not working. Check fuel pump relay on engine compartment fuse box have somebody to turn the ignition key to the RUN position, DO NOT CRANK ENGINE (feel if the relay clicks when the key is turned, it will only be energized for a couple of seconds and then you should feel when it gets de-energized. if relay is OK, remove the fuel tank gas cap and repeat the same key operation, listen to the fuel pump coming in, again this will be running only for a couple of seconds, try a few times until you are sure one way or the other. If fuel pump works, then replace fuel filter and try to start vehicle. If vehicle does not start. You need to check fuel pump pressure. borrow a tester form Autozone or similar auto parts store. The fuel pressure should be between 30-40 psi with key ON engine OFF. If pressure is off either way, replace fuel pump.
Here is how to hook up the fuel pressure tester
Good Luck! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.
It is possible that is plugged. The fuel pump is in the gas tank. when you turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump turn on. I would check fuses first, if they are good while you are cranking the car over have someone else bang hard on bottom of the gas tank with their hand. If the fuel pump is stuck it might start working again. Good luck
The fuel pump in this car is electric and is inside the fuel tank, it uses the fuel it sets in for lubrication and for cooling, when u run out of gas this causes the tiny electric pump to severly overheat and many times it ruins the pump, and that is what has happened here, u will need to pull the gas tank and replace the fuel pump. also replace the fuel filter.
if its petrol engine bang bottom of fuel tank while some one else cranks vehicle over if it starts good just pump jammed if it dont buzz to life and you cant hear fuel pump buzzing ceck for power to it if thats there replace pump. running out of fuel kills electric fuel pumps internally in petrol tanks.
if its diesel you must bleed fuel system taking extreme care if you un do lines some very high pressure
It could be the fuel pump. The only way to know is to test it with a fuel pressure guage. You can buy them at most auto parts stores. What you are describing it fairly typical of a bad pump.(runs fine until you shut it of then won't start). The car can not be push started without the pump running. The pump is not really hard to change, but the fuel tank has to be dropped to do it. the pump is inside of the gas tank. Hope this helped.
