Changed water pump and put engine back together and timing jumped. Can I get back in to set timing marks without tearing engine apart again?

I assume you're talking about the 2.7L V6. As you're probably aware (having had it apart before), the timing is properly set by aligning the colored links on the primary timing chain with the marks on the crank sprocket and cam sprockets. The only way I know of to see all these at the same time is to remove the timing cover, and you have to tear the engine apart to remove the timing cover.

I have 2004 dodge intrepid, changed water pump an now the rpms are higher than normal.

Could be that your timing chain is off, you have to remove the timing assembly to get to the water pump and if you put it back in wrong the RPM's could be off.

Bought car with bent vavles they put water pump on truned motor with starter bent vavle . replaced vavle set chains with alldata , and it's back firing though intake

if you changed the valves and replaced the timing chain/belt you need to put the engine at top dead center at the number one cylinder

2.7 engine? Valves are bent. These engines are famous for timing chain problems, replace all of the chain, guides tensioner and water pump if its apart.

Just need timing belt diagram 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter. I changed my plugs, car turns over starts for a minute makes loud sound in the engine, kind of back fires

your intrepid doesnt have a timing belt it has a chain. there are major problems with these engines, theres a big one with the chain jumping due to a tensioner breaking or a guide, heres a diagram for the chain setup.this is a very important setup make sure you use correct sprokets in the right place and also if it jumped timing il bet you may have some bent valves,1441a70.gif

How to adjust the timing on 4cyl '95 dodge dakota

unfortunately you do have to tear it all down, but it's not as bad as it sounds. the 4cyl is easy to work on. you don't have to put it all back together to find out if timing is correct. if you have a good fully charged battery just run the engine with only the timing belt attached. (of course be absolutley sure to keep tools, engine pars, and hands clear!)

put on the parking break and the trans in neutral

tear down to the timing belt

adjust to tdc (there is a hash mark on the cam gear)

remove or losen the idler pully

allign the timing gear and crank gear. there are marks on these from the factory install.

tighten idler pulley

run engine. it should be fairly obvious if it's too advanced or lagged when you give it some gas.
