I replaced fuel pump in 1996 tahoe it wont get gas to start

I had same problem on my 97 tahoe shut off while driving and wouldnt start only turned over. checked everything and when i replaced ignition module started right up no problem. Hope this helped and saved ya money

The 1990's chevy trucks(all of them) had fuel pump and grounding problems:

1. Check the fuel pump ground strap next to the gas tank as it could be broken from the connector or just loose.

2. Have a fuel pressure test done on the fuel lines at the engine top. (Note: if there isn't enough fuel pressure, replace the fuel pump.)

Computer showing any codes? Could be a bad regulator or a leak in the system allowing air in and fuel to flow back to the gas tank.

Will it continue to run aftre you manually prime it? If so, you are lossing fuel pressure over time which may indicate a leak in a line and or a faulty fuel pump. (low pressure) Could also be a restriction in fuel line (filter) Frozen water in the line is not unheard of in cold climates.

Have you tried to start it with starting fluid? Sometimes the aftermarket fuel pumps don't last long. Especially if the filter is not placed right on the bottom of the new pump. You should be able to take off the gas cap and hear the pump run for about 3-5 seconds when you turn the ignition on. If you don't hear the pump running then it is either your pump is bad again or the relay under the hood is not working. You can swap the relay with one next to it to see if it is bad. When you swap the relay turn on the ignition again and see if you hear the fuel pump.

fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. When you turn the key do you hear fuel pump run? If not odds are the pump is bad.

Replace your fuel pump, starting to go out.Not bad idea to also replace fuel filter with fuel pump.

take it to a GM dealer and see if the electronic key reader needs to be replaced
