Below is a picture of the ignition coil, connected to the coil are spark plug wires, follow those wires from the coil to the end, at the end you will find the spark plug wire connected to the spark plug which is screwed into the cylinder head of the engine, there are 6 spark plugs.

SOURCE: changing sparks plugs in a 2000 pontiac montana

remove the ignition coil pack ( 2 10mm bolts on front of it and 2 13 mm nuts on the back side) u will need a long extension and deep socket for the back ones , and unplug all electrical connectors and remove it from the vehicle and you should be able to reach the back plugs without a problem.

How do I check if I'm getting spark in a2006 trailblazer

You visually check for spark at the spark plug. If coil on plug ignition, remove coil, use spark tester, ground spark tester. Engine cranking, visually see spark jump the gap on tester. The spark tester usually has alligator clip so you can ground it to engine block. It's probably best not to hold anything in your hand. I've been bit many times by secondary ignition voltage, not pleasant, but, it hasn't killed me, yet. I don't like it.
A digital multimeter may be sensitive enough for inductive reading? I haven't tried that with coil on plug ignition, yet. That is bleed through voltage/ inductive, you don't take anything loose and you don't penetrate anything, you just touch the coil. Some of the readings I've seen are around .5-- or .7 volt, not even a full volt. Granted that test may not be conclusive?

2000 Pontiac Montana not starting

Disconnect one of the battery cables for 5 min. Reattach it and tighten manually. This resets the ECM and possibly will allow starting. Disconnect a plug wire and get someone into the drivers seat and attempt to start. Hold plug wire close to spark plug and see if there's a spark. If no spark, either the battery is bad or COIL.

How do you Replace the Spark Plugs on a 1999 Pontiac Montana

The three front ones are simple and the three back ones are challenging. There are two ways to replacing the rear spark plugs on the Montana.
1. If your arms are long enough and you have longs extensions with a spark plug socket with a swivel build in to it, you can get to the plugs from under the Montana.
2. You can get to the rear plugs buy disconnecting the two dog bone engine mounts in front of the engine and tilting the engine forward. You can do this by placing the parking brakes on and disconnecting the dog bone, once that is done. Place your foot on the brakes and take the parking brakes off and push the Montana forward till the engine tilts forward enough to give you the room you need to get your arms over the top of the engine with the extensions and spark plug socket. Make sure you place the parking brakes back on and put a block at the rear of the engine to ensure the Montana will not move back and cause you to loose your arm or head.
Note that you need to keep the transmission in park when tilting the engine and that your going to have to replace the spark plug wires and do everything by touch to replace the rear spark plugs.
Thank you for using Fixya and use platinum spark plugs to give you 100,000 miles of service. Good luck and be safe.

Changing spark plugs

Same way you changed the front, but harder. You have to remove the air cleaner and hoses, then you can reach around the back side of the motor. Pain in the ****.
