If that does not work well you can go to auto zone or neariest auto parts strore buy a obd11 scanner and clear it by using the scanner but make sure the scanner you purchase is compatabile with the year and make of your vehicle

My toyota corolla 2006 model has the maint. required lights on. what does that mean?

It means your car needs an oil change, based on mileage. If you take your car to get the oil changed, they can reset the light for you. If you want the light off now, try holding in the odometer reset button, with the key on but engine off, until little dashes appear then one by one dissapear. This procedure may need to be done either on the odometer total mileage or trip A mileage or trip B mileage.

Step 1: Have car off.

Step 2: Push and hold in trip reset button.

Step 3: While still holding button in, turn key to ON, but engine off. Wait for the little dashes to appear and disapear. If it doesn't work on the odometer setting. before turning key off, switch to Trip A setting. If the procedure doesn't work on the odometer setting or Trip A, try Trip B setting.

Step 4: Turn key off. Then start car. Maint. required light should be off.

Engine service light is on and all codes are cleared

hi engine service light is different from error codes, this is a system generated thing so its just reminding you that you have a service either due, or one is coming up, its on a countdown via the mileage counter, when it gets close it just reminds you to get it done, this will have to be reset in a different way here is how
  1. With the car started (ignition on), set the LCD odometer readout to total mileage(not trip A or B).
  2. Turn the car off (ignition key to the OFF position).
  3. Push in AND HOLD the button/knob that switches the odometer
  4. Turn key to ON position without starting the car. You will notice the maintenance light blink and go out.
  5. Release the odometer button/knob.
  6. Turn key to OFF position.
  7. That's it! The "MAINT REQD" light has been reset to warn you to change your oil in another 5,000 or 7,500 miles or so hope this helps, please rate and comment thanks

How to turn off the maintance required light

Turn the key to the on position, but do not start it. Make sure the odometer is set to the actual mileage and not the trip mileage.
Now turn the key back to the off position then press and hold the trip mileage reset button. While still holding the trip reset button down, turn the key to the on position. Continue holding the trip mileage reset button while the mileage flashes rows of zeros until the actual mileage appears again. Release the button and that should reset your maintenance light.
Hope this helps but if not please let me know.
If it does please give a rating thanks and good luck.

Maintenance required light just came on and I have

1. Turn off the engine. The car should not be running when performing these steps.
2. Press and hold the select/reset knob. This knob is located on the instrument panel. It will be sticking out on the bottom right of instrument panel. It's the same knob that is used to reset the trip mileage or change what is displayed in the mileage/temperature box.
3.While holding the knob, turn the ignition switch (the key) to on (II) position. Continue holding the knob for approximately 10 seconds. The MAINT REQ'D light should turn off.

Crv 03 just started and few second the engine idle dying...

Only a solution for the maintenance light problem.

Turn off the engine, leave key in ignition.
Press and hold the Select/Reset button on the instrument panel (the reset button you use when you're clearing your trip mileage) and then turn the ignition switch On to the second position -- not to the start position.
Hold the button until the indicator resets -- approximately 10 seconds).

Flashing light shows a car and a keyh inside

Thank You Very Much for The Maintenance Required Light Info, as far as the flashing car w the key inside. I'm not sure what key we have? When we bought it it only came with one key so we tried to make a duplicate, which ended up not working because we later found out it needs a chip (or probably what I hear as the smart key?) If the light is supposed to be on (and normal) why does it need reset?

The Maint Reqd light blinks after 4,500 miles, and stays ON continuously after 5,000 miles. This is to remind you that you need an oil change. Give the info from you about your key, you do not have a smart key. You have a transponder key. Off topic, but, FYI, a Toyota dealer can program a transponder key for you.
Back to the Maint Reqd light. Here is how you reset it:
Turn the key on.
Make sure that the odometer reads "ODO", and displays the total mileage traveled...If it displays trip a or trip b, push the black button by the odometer to make the display read ODO.
Turn the key off.
Press and HOLD the black trip reset button until advised to release it.
Turn the key ON. (keep holding th reset button down)
Observe the odometer display.
you will see 5 dashes, 4 dashes, 3 dashes, 2 dashes, 11 dash, followed by five zeros, and the total mileage you started with will re-display.
Release the button.
Turn the key off.

Regarding the flashing light with the car & the key: This is the indicator to show potential theives thatyou vehicle has a sophosticated security system, and it CAN NOT be started by "hot-wiring" it. The flashing light is normal, and consumes no battery power. I hope that this helps you understand these two items better. Thanks for choosing FixYA, and the graciousness of a FixYa rating for my solution to you would be greatly appreciated. Glad to be of assistance; please feel free to call upon me anytime. Have a great day.
