SOURCE: car won't go in reverse

If the vehcile is V6,then the trans model is the A540E,and if it is the 4 cylinder engine, the trans model is an A140E.Both are 4 speed overdrive transmissions, and sorry to report that on just abot every automatic trans on the road, reverse gear failure is almost always a mechanical problem inside the transmission because there are no shift solenoids involved with reverse as with forward gears. And you did say the forward gears were fine.Good luck.

I got a 1990 ford tempo I was wondering why it goes in reverse but won't go forward

Is it standard or automatic, I think it must be Standard because that doesn't happen with Automatics. If you put it in low and it only goes backwards someone had it (The transmission apart) and put the slider in back wards or something like that. Perhaps the forward gears are gone so they wanted to see if reverse works. Maybe you meant when you shift into a forward gear it doesn't work but when you shift it into reverse it does work. There is a fork like gear that moves the gears in and out of high and low range and it might be broken and it is possible if you find it hasn't been ground up in the internal gears it might be welded back in place and be sure to grind off every bit of flux so the gears can work smoothly. Best thing is to go to a junk yard that still has older cars like the Tempo so you can buy the transmission.

My 1993 ford tempo 2.3L wants to slip in reverse but changed trans fluid and was very clean and works fine in all forward gears. Is trans going out or could it be an adjustment?

be careful when changing gears into reverse and be careful while in reverse and your transmission should last but if you ride on that gear to much your transmission will fail and you will no longer have reverse in your vehicle even if you have all other gears working

Whay could be causing my 1993 Ford Tempo to lurch forwards and backwards while driving? The fuel pump pressure is fine. Could it be an oxigen sensor??

oxigen sensor doesnt cause such sort of problem . i think you should check your gear box and lubricate it finely also check the oil sump. Your feedback is being waited

When I put my car into Drive, the car makes a very loud clunk noise as its going into gear, it the original automatic 1993 ford tempo transmission, it also does the same thing going into reverse, not...

Your problem is very common.
you need to have your u-joints also known as universal joints. that is what the clunking noise you are hearing.

Clunking noise from front when going forwards or backing up..jacked front end up..put car in N..spun both wheels and didn't hear any sound..where else can I check

usually the knocking is the drive bearings, or, the shock absorbers...so , i would check the shockers, if your wheels are rotating normally
