No fusible links on your car. There is a fuse on the side of the fuse panel under the hood that can blow. 175 amp, has a small cover to lift up. When it blows, the car will run, but the alternator will not charge the battery.

Your alternator has a fusible link coming from the battery to the alternator, fuse probably is blown. The link is in a box next to the battery.

SOURCE: How do you check if altenator is charging battery,

Most vehicles if you get the car running and unhook the positive battery cable it will stay running that is because it is running off the alternator. if it dies like your talking about I would most definitely say your alternator needs to be replaced. Most likely when you jumped your father in laws pick up there was a bad ground somewhere and your alternator got a surge of electricity and it fried it. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 96 ford exployer wont stay running

Check the harness for a break at the splice about one foot back of the alternator,it's a common area of failure. If thats not it then check the fusible link that comes from the starter relay and goes to the alternator.

That's not unusual with electrical parts. They can fail with no symptoms. And your symptoms say it is indeed a bad alternator.

Transmission or altenator?

I would say change the alternator out. Start with the simplest and cheapest factor first. Without the alternator keeping the engine running its hard to put it any gear.

71 c10 not staying charged... new battery alternator fuses good and new voltage regulator

Maybe it wasn't running long enough to charge up the battery?
Stop trying to jump it, when you are having problems with it dying, take the battery off and have it charged. And/or buy a $20 voltmeter to see what the battery shows. If it says less than 12 volts, it is discharged, and needs charging. A good battery that is not run down should have at least 12.5 volts. A new battery that is charged should have very close to 13 volts, maybe 12.8 volts.
When you have the truck running, check the alternator for charging. You put the voltmeter right on the battery and check it again. This time, with truck running, battery should show at least 13.5 volts. That shows the alternator is working. A good alternator will put out about 13 or 14 volts-the regulator will keep it from going any higher to prevent problems, like a melting battery or electrical parts burning out.
I would say get the charging system working right, then address the problem of dying at stop lights. That could be a carburetor problem, if the alternator is working.

it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

I used my f 150 to jump and it died

possibly your relay got fried or maybe you did the wrong tapping on your battery lead or you probably damaged your alternator IC regulator/ when you jump up another car make sure to do the right connection on your positive and negative lead battery and make sure your car is running to give more power to your battery.

Hi,i have a 96 accord 4 cyl. vtec. just recently there has beeen a power loss issue. i have changed the alternator, check the ignition switch, tested fuses , battery seems fine, connections are good no...

check the alternator voltage , it has to be 13.8 to 14.4 vdc. it sounds like your car is running off the battery alone. Sometimes a bad battery will take out an alternator, and after replacing it goes again.Check all connections, and check the feedback terminal on the alternator is telling the alternator to switch on.
