Not positive exactly but i had a 90 ranger and it was supposed to be located on passenger side. Behind the panel in the floorboard. Where the vents used to be on older models. However, it was under the carpet in the floor board. On passenger side. Im not sure why. But I could see where it was supposed to be. It is a small round button that looks like a bell hop bell. Know what I mean? lol
if it is blowing cold and you know heater core is good. The actuator for the hot/cold door is possibly inop. Im not sure of your entire situation without more detail but I have seen this occur often.
Easy to fix. Remove trunk liner or peel back on passenger side. Squeeze tabs that hold in the vent housing and push out. You have to loosen the bumper panel over in the wheel well area. This is just two bolts that take a 10 mm wrench and a plastic body clip. Remove vent from outside of car. Take off old gasket and throw away. Clean vent and metal around where vent goes completely with lacquer thinner. Use a product such as Lexel to caulk around where gasket used to be. Be liberal with caulking, it all covers. Reinstall vent and other parts in reverse order. Poblem solved. One hour to do and no special tools required.
You may have a leak in the heater core or the hoses to the heater core located under the dash. check to see if there is any moisture under your dash in the carpeting.fix the leak, and you will fix the cause of antifreeze on the windshield.
