Is a 2ooo 3.0 l series engine an interference engine

Is this you Joe Russell? I remember you have a Contour, but I thought it was a 1998?

Information in the link. They have two engine sizes, 2.0 and 2.5 and one has a chain and one has a belt according to the information.

i worded that answer incorrectly... the 4 cylinder 2.0L Vin 3 engine is an interference engine,and the 2.5L 6 cylinder engines have chains,(Vin G and L). these letters are the 8th digit of the 17 digit Vin number....

Hi, I believe the VG series of engines are interference engines, meaning if the valve timing is lost the valves will be damaged! Regards John

which light?, there are 10 or more? lost the operators guide? its free.
did you check compression first. i would. it proves it was done right
and if interference engines I do a hand cranked leak down test
to avoid bent valves. YMMV, good luck there......

USA answer.: OBD2 systems.
first clear the DTCs
then run it. see if they return.
if do post them. DTC are errors.
no engine option stated, no series LC. either so cant say for sure.

SO Your engines is the 4.7L and as such , you check
the belt timing 3 times then run a leak down test by hand
and roll the engine by hand first. after belt swap
with sparks out to be sure the pistons dont hit the valves.
if they do , stop.
never crank over in any interference engine blind.
the stater motor can bend valves.
if the engine ran bad, and you found the belt slipped.
the leak down test, would be next. for sure.

always ask how to service interference engines.
there are lots of precautions,.

you certainly have a problem. There were only a few manufacturers fitting 'free-wheeling' engines. I believe the Chrysler Acclaim series were the last to do so. Volvo 850 were not members of that club.

change fuel filter, add can of SEAFOAM to 1/2 tank of Premium gas. You have the beginning of EGS(ethanol gas syndrome)/<p>
You have corn by-product that turns to goop and puts excessive water through out your system. It will clogs filters;injectors, puts heavy carbon on egr valves and on your engine valve train. It's simple and will make your vehicle run better, improve MPG, and will protect your truck for this condition again.<p>
You can get SF at any parts store, and if you add it to your tank every 3-5000 miles, it will be a god send. good luck.
