Clicking sound when i put my foot on the brake i hear a clicking sound coming from my shift box and if my lights are on it makes my brake light turn off it also clicks when I but my blinker on making my blinker light go slowly

Turn the ignition on so the lights are all up on the dash dont start the vehicle. Put your foot on the brake pedal and make sure u can hear the shift lock click in and out with repeated brake pedal applications. If you cant hear it check the shift lock switch onder the dash on brake pedal. Might be built into the brake light switch check that they work also. I hope this helps

Are the brake lights working, the safety lock on the gearshift is operated by the brake lights, if they don't work you can't get it out of park. Sequence is turn on ignition, put foot on foot brake (brake lights come on, park lock disengages). Check the brake light fuse.

Did you reinstall the gear shift knob? Without the knob attached you should still be able to push down on shifter button with your foot on the brake to shift.

If you cannot push in button, listen carefully for a click (underneath the gear shift) when you put your foot on the brake. If you do not hear a click, your shift solenoid could be bad or your brake solenoid could be bad (which supplies power to your shift solenoid). Your brake solenoid will also control your brake lights so simply put your foot on the brake and have someone see if they light up. If they do light up your brake solenoid is good and you'll have to troubleshoot your shift solenoid.

possibly the neutral safety switch connected to the brake pedal is bad. when you apply foot to brake , shouls hear a click with key in run position, this would be the safety solenoid retracting itself from shift linkage, allowing shift lever to move. try pumping rapidly, but easily the brake pedal to see if you can hear click, and or shift from park.

you should hear a click from the solenoid when you apply the brakes. If your brake lights don't work, your shift lock release won't either. There is a bypass method for emergencies in your owner manual. Check fuse for brake lights. And switch on brake pedal

The 2000 Mercedes models all utilize a Shift Interlock, which will only allow the vehicle to be shifted out of Park while the brake is applied. The way this works is that a lock pin holds the shift lever in the Park position until a solenoid is powered by the brake light circuit, pulling the lock pin away from the shift linkage. The wire to the solenoid may come loose, or the brake light switch may fail. If someone tried to remove the vehicle from Park without applying the brake, the end of the lock pin may have become jammed. Try two things: 1) Start the vehicle, put your foot on the brake, and attempt to move the shift lever from Park to Reverse. 2) If you cannot remove the vehicle from Park, are the brake lights coming on? If not, a) replace the 15A fuse for the brake light circuit, and b) try Step 1 again. 3) If you cannot remove the vehicle from Park and the brake lights are coming on normally, locate the interlock solenoid at the shift lever and make sure it is properly connected. When you put your foot on the brake, the solenoid should retract. If it does not, check for 12V at the solenoid when you put your foot on the brake. If you have voltage, replace the solenoid. If you do not have voltage, you have a broken wire between the brake light switch and the solenoid. If the solenoid retracts but you still cannot remove the vehicle from Park, your shift linkage may have become bent at the transmission linkage. Hope that's helpful! :)

Sounds like the "shift lock actuator". It's a common Ford/Lincoln problem. It's basically a safety device to ensure the car is turned on and your foot is on the brake b/4 you can place the car into gear. Here is a gr8 piece describing the problem
" This is a problem with the Shift Interlock System and not the transmission. Bet you're glad to hear that. The Shift Interlock System requires the key to be in the "RUN" position and the brake pedal depressed in order to shift out of "PARK". This is to prevent possible vehicle runaway. There are a couple of possibilities here. The first is the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch. You can usually tell if this is bad if you have no brake lights at all. Another possibility is a bad Shift Lock Actuator or Shift lock solenoid, located under the console.
First thing to do is check fuses 28 and 32 in the fuse box, if you haven't already done so, and make sure they are good.
To check the BPP switch, check for power at the light green/red and light green wires with a test light with the key in the "RUN" position and the brake pedal depressed. If you have power there, then check for power at the light green wire at the Shift Lock Actuator.
f you have power at the light green wire at the Shift Lock Actuator, ground the black wire. If you hear a click, then you have a bad ground and it needs to be repaired. If not, the Shift Lock Actuator is bad and needs to be replaced."

What you are hearing is the "Shift-interlock solenoid" activating. That is the device that keeps the shifter from being shifted into drive without your foot on the brake pedal. The brake light switch sends power to the Shift interlock solenoid, and, when powered, the oin retracts, allowing you to move the shift lever. This is a normal condition. Nothing to be concerned about. The lights dim because of the slight draw on the alternator.
