SOURCE: mazda 626 ( 1997, 2.0 petrol ) alternator belt diagram
Dumb question, but, did you happen to the diagram on the underside of the hood, the strut tower towards sides of the motor or on the radiator support.
SOURCE: Im trying to replace the alternator on a 1999 Mazda 626
Yes, I experienced the same thing with mine... you have to losen the 2 motor mounts on that side and lift the motor up about 3 ". I worked at a garage so I had access to an engine hoist. Try using a jack from underneath. Nice engineering from Mazda!!!

SOURCE: how can i fix my mazda 626 transmission range
The transmission range sensor aka neutral safety switch is located underneath the air filter on top of the transaxle and very easy to access. Replace this part (around $50) and it will solve your problem.
What happens is this, when your tranny warms up, it disperses heat to the sensor switch and if its faulty or worn out, will send faulty relays to the transmissiom computer module (TCM) and makes the transmission shift irratically (OD to 3rd and back while driving at freeway speeds). You tranny is not overheating like most people believe, its the switch. Mechanics are telling alot of people that their tranny needs replaced. Watch Out For These People!! They only want your money!!
SOURCE: where is 1999 mazda fuel pump located?my mazda 626
Hiya,
The fuelpump is located in the fueltank and is accessible by removing the rear seat squab. Under the squab is a service panel that will have a few screws holding it down. remove the panel and instead of removing the pump try giving it a firm rap with a hammer handle or piece of solid wood taking care not to damage the wiring or fuel lines exiting the top of the pump assembly. This may be enough to get the pump to work again.
