There may be to much pressure on the steering wheel lock for it to go into the off position. put the parking brake on. put the shifter in neutral gently turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction of where the wheels are pointed and try turning the key to the off position. Good Luck

Wheel is locked up will not engage shifter move from Park to drive

1 Set the emergency brake.
2 Insert key into the ignition and turn the ignition switch to the "ON" or "RUN" position. It is not necessary to start the engine.
3 Locate the shift lock override slot located on the shifter console near the shifter lever. Normally, the slot is plugged with a small plastic cap. Remove the cap.
4 Insert a small screwdriver, nail file, key or similarly shaped object into the override slot, push down and hold
5 While continuing to hold down the shift override mechanism, depress the brake pedal.
6 Now, grasp the shifter, push in the release button located on the shifter as you normally do and then move the shifter to the desired gear. If you've completed these steps with the engine off, move the shifter to the Neutral position to start the engine.

On a 96 Jaguar XJ6, the gear selector sticks in the park position when startin

i presume this is a x300 series, you should hear a click from the gear selector area when you press the brake pedal with the ignition on, if not the park release soleniod is not working, the common cause of this is the brake pedal switch faulty, you can manualy release it by removing the little star shaped plug near the gear lever and inserting a small object like a screwdriver or your key, then select N and start engine,

2004 suzuki automatic transmission stuck in park

that is park lock failure, build into the shifter section,it has an
electric solenoid lock. and a bypass button.
in the glove box, see oper. guide, it tells you where the erg. release
button location, and varies by sub body type and options.
its hidden cover, or a slot, on most cars. the slot type is to insert
any key in slot and push. bang, it opens (brake set, etc)

Ignition switch won't release key when it is put in park. But when I removed switch and key tumbler, the key tumbler/cylinder releases key. Why won't the key release when it is in park?

Most newer models have a safety feature called
shift interlock. This prevents the key from being turned back
to the lock position if you forget to place the gear selector in park.
Depending on the model,
If it uses a cable, it may be sticking or needs adjusting.
If it uses an electrical solenoid. may be blown fuse or park switch.
Tap, shake, and pull up on the shifter and make sure it's in park.

2007 ford focus key stuck in ignition.

Hope this helps all.... If the key is stuck (won't come out) and the column is NOT locked, on the gear shift there is a plastic sleeve. Put the gear shift in park...slide your hand below the knob and pull that sleeve up! Presto!!! it locks in park and the key comes out. I just put all the stuff i took apart back together... the other solutions may work but this is the first step to check... no tools and you know right away...

My key is stuck in the ignition. Won't lock.

do not try to put the key in lock. if it will still start, then you will be able to replace the lock cylinder. if you rotate it to lock then you might not get it to turn again. as for the gear selector, there is a release on the shifter. some have a slot to stick a key and push down as you change gears. others you may have to take apart the console, and you will see the release lever.

Ford focus zx3 2006

There is a small sleeve just below the shift knob on the ford focus - it can slide down and trigger a sensor in the gear box that tells the car it is not in park even when it is. Push the sensor back up toward the knob (with the car in park) and the key should release.
