hey there. my name is dwayne, and im contacting you for help on my 98 caddy deville. well three days ago. i got a alarm installed. and friday i was driving on da high way and it just turned off. and smoke started coming from my steering wheel. engines coolant temp. was only 200 no smoke was coming from engine. now car wont start at all.!! please help

u will need to bypass the VATS factory security systemm the part u need to fix it is no longer avail from GM, it is easy, here are the full instructions, go to the link.

The PATS security system would prevent the engine from cranking if the system does not "see" the right chip in your key. If the system is working correctly, the light should go off after you turn the key switch on.
You should have power on the small starter wire when the key switch is in the start position.

What relay ?
You may have the wire from the key switch on the wrong terminal.
If the car has an anti-theft system the key lock may not be reading the chip in the key.
Can you jumper the starter solenoid and make the starter work ?

The 88 Deville is one of many cars made by GM that is using the antitheft system called VATS PASSKEY. (its that little black chip in the key) When this system fails, the car can't get the signal from the chip, so it locks out the starter to prevent theft. The car thinks it's being hot wired, so it shuts down. Look for a light on the dash that says SECURITY or ANTITHEFT. This is proof of a security failure. This might be your problem. Power, but can not start
Try to quickly engage and disengage the starter motor by rotating the key all the way forward and back to ignition on only, and back again several times a second until the starter motor engages.

Sounds like the starter motor solenoid is sticking, maybe.

This happens on my 1997 Cadillac Deville sometimes on hot summer days or even in the winter.

I thought it was the security system, at first, but it is more likely a starter motor going bad.

Won't start...99 cadillac deville...no juice to the starter
hi, can you hear a clicking noise when you turn the key to start as the starter gets its power direct from the battery so also check these wires are connected and not came loose.
If you can hear a clicking noise when you turn the key this means the starter motor needs replacing ok.
