Best thing is, go to the parts house and get a book on your car.
YouTube videos will also help.
The book is a must

Mitsubishi Gallant 2001 2.4 engine

If the belt has not changed timing, your problem could be unrelated, or wiring may have been moved during work and now came loose or bad connection. Go back to basics. Spark? Fuel pressure correct?

Timing belt replacement for rubber belts is around 60, 000 miles, maximum is 90,000 miles, Since you have 84,000 miles, I would do it soon.

My 2001 mitsubishi gallant quit running, acts like it is out of gas

try cheapest first; change fuel filter, if that doesn't work try fuel pump, if that doesn't work, it may be the fuel injection system, either the computer part of it or the mechanics of it

Location of a sensor

Replacing a CPS can be easy or hard. On the 2002 Gallant 2.4, it is located behind the timing belts. Removal of the main pulley, the covers and the belts is required. This isn't as hard as it sounds and is essentially the same as changing the timing belts.

Need to know about changing the timing belt on my 2001 mitsubishi

This will take about 3-4 hours. If you look at the drive belts, they will all have to be taken off to get to the timing belt. The engine crankshaft has to be positioned for marks to line-up. The crankshaft will have to be prevented from turning so you can take off its drive pulley. Rotate until the alignment cylinder is near TDC, remove sparkplug, then packing a small rope on top of the piston prevents the engine from turning.. Once you change one timing belt, you will never buy another car with a timing belt again. You can get a manual on eBay.

Morning replaceing alternator belt the long one for a mitibushi 2001 gallant. its the belt that goes around all the pullys. we get the belt on but how to tighten it up once in place.

Their should ba a tensioner pully that it goes around. this part keeps tension on at all times. It is possible that you have the wrong belt or you have the belt routed wrong. Check with your local auto parts store, they should be able to give you the belt routing and the right belt if you have the wrong one.

Please contact me if your problem presists.

Belts replacement for Mitsubishi gallant (1997)

Is your engine a 4 or 6 cylinder? Air conditioning or no? Either way, a power steering belt at Auto Zone will run you from $7.99 to $12.99. If replacing that does not help, it may be your pump.
HOWEVER, before anything else, PLEASE CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL IN THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR. It may be low. If so, just add fluid to the correct level.:)
