You have to drive at least 125 miles to reset and cycle computer some try the drive cycles they dont always work but the following links show you how to perform them

Can jump starting a battery w/the chk eng light on cause a 97 5. Mrcry Mtnr computer to not reset for a smog check?

No . With the check engine light on there is probably a DTC diagnostic trouble code stored in the computer . Have code read ,diagnose and repair problem . Suggest you take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop and have if fixed right .

I replace transmission speed sensor on my 01 siverado 1500 2wd with the 5.3 . Wanna know how to reset computer after replacement of the transmission speed sensor .

Did the tss set a code or check engine light. If it did then you need to put a scanner on the computer and delete the code. If not then you may need to drive the vehicle until the computer can run through a cycle (which can be up to 50 miles) before it resets itself. You might also take the negative battery cable off for about 5 minutes and see if it resets the system.

I HAVE A 97 PLYMOUTH NEON,WHAT IS THE DRIVE CYCLE?

A drive cycle is a test that the on board computer performs while you drive the car to prove out all the systems on the car that control tailpipe emissions, if it finds a problem it will trigger a check engine light and and the drive cycle will not complete. The correct name of this is the "OBD2 ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL DRIVE CYCLE TEST". "OBD2" is short for On Board Diagnostics generation 2. The test is just driving the car at various speeds, stop and go traffic and idle time, make sure you have at least 5 gallons of gas in the tank as well. Many folks disconnect the battery to clear a Check Engine light when a smog is due, this resets the computer (known as the PCM) and then you must complete a OBD2 drive cycle, which of course will turn the Check Engine light back on.

Went to have my 97 skylark smoged and was was told my check engine light was not working. Tech said it has something to do with code p1406. Any suggestions?

Code p1406 is an EGR code but that has nothing to do with the light not working. Some one has probably taken the bulb out instead of fixing the EGR valve problem. You could just have a bad EGR valve or the ports under the EGR valve could be plugged with carbon . You need to remove the EGR valve to pinpoint the exhaust gas curcuit problem.

Check engine light is on, we had it fixed but 100 miles later it went on again

had my check engine light cleared to get it smoged. was told by smog company that the panels take 100 miles to reset. seems that the fix was not really a fix after all. they must have cleared the code and it took your computer the 100 miles to identify the same problem your mechanic was supposed to fix, but didn't. good luck fighting the same thing.

Check engine light keep coming on after repairs

the infomation u were given is 100% wrong! if the light is coming on then a problem exists in the OBD 2 engine control system, there will be a fault code stored for the check engine light, who told u this the dealer??

97 Dodge Ram Pick up cranks ok engine won't run

try checking all the ground circuits comming out of the PCM. and its also not common for a ground driver in the PCM to fail on dodges. also i have seen crankshaft sensors short out and take out pcm communication. so i would start by unplugging any sensor that runs off the 5v supply until the pcm wil talk to the scanner. if you unplug a sensor and communication returns to scanner then replace the sensor. and dont forget to check for good power and ground at the data link conector and PCM
