96 Previa Auto has erratic idle and misfire on start up

code p 0300 determines misfire causes as the following=== causes --engine mechanical fault ---wiring---ignition/ fuel system---injector ---ECT/MAF sensor--- ECM
You have two areas to check
one is the MAF sensor as it will cause erratic idling and second the injector or HT leads to a plug
If you run the fault codes you will get a p 0301or 2 or3 or 4 code and that is the cylinder number that is misfiring--code p 0300 is random /multiple misfires and the causes are the same including low fuel pressure and low compression

WHAT ABOUT ANY SPARK HT-LEAD NOT WORKING AND IS GIVING MISFIRING AND ERRATIC IDLE. WHILST ENGINE IS RUNNING,PULL ONE BY ONE TO FIND THE NOT WORKING ONE.

ever tune it up,?
carb engine, or EFI?
the tacho action tells you the primary ingition side is failing.
the jumper is inserted, in the EFI , code 8 is spark misfire.
jumper the service check connector , 2 pins.
code 8 can clear fast, so you make engine mistfire, watching the lamp. but is only more evidence that the the ECU can not fire the coil.
The Tacho proves that. if the code 4 or 9 show up, bingo.
drive with the jumper planted.

pull wire off # 2 see if idle changes if not there s no spark... test coil....test all vacuum lines for leaks also. if all good then idle speed sensor.

my buddies 94 350 has been doing the same thing for years i think its in the computer i would say youll probably have to live with it

get new speedo cable or check both sides and see if the wheel is broken on either side

you need to reconnect the mil with it unplug the oxygen sensor can not operate when your rich the sensor has to set at around 600 millivolts if your lean it drops to 300 mill a good dwell meter can check it hot and cold
