SOURCE: 1995 Ford Taurus Sho 3.2 check engine light blink

Code 33 is EGR opening not detected, this is caused by a plugged EGR exhaust passage in the upper intake manifold, this is a common SHO engine fault, the valve works but the engine does nothing that the computer can sense, since no gas flows, to verify this is the problem open the egr at idle, the engine should almost die, if nothing happens or only a tiny change in idle speed or quality the passages are plugged, if it does stall or get real rough the egr position sensor (usual code for sensor is 32) may be faulty or the valve is sticking. I was a ford dealer tech for 30 years and did quite a few of these, there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) about this problem

Hi Branda1, It will have to go to a dealer to repair. Air bags are not something you want to do yourself, very dangerous. Here is what code 51 means.. hope this answers your question.. Cobra

Diagnostic Trouble Code 51—Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse—Fuse Blown Due to Intermittent Short to Ground Normal Operation
NOTE: The air bag diagnostic monitor contains an internal thermal fuse that is not serviceable. The thermal fuse is controlled by the microprocessor inside the air bag diagnostic monitor . The microprocessor inside the air bag diagnostic monitor will blow the thermal fuse whenever a short on the deployment circuits occurs. The thermal fuse does not blow because of excessive current flowing through it. DO NOT attempt to short circuit the thermal fuse with a circuit breaker or any other type of fuse.

yes it means your airbags are not working. you need to have it put on ford spec diagnostic equipment at your local ford dealer to have it repaired. some small shops may be able to do it, just depends on if they have the right diag equipment.

airbag light on means fault codes stored in the airbag,
so you should read and clear the fault coeds.

Airbag dashboard light keeps blinking. In 1997 Ford Thunderbird.

The air bag computer will have to be scanned and the code read to know what the fault the computer detects. The problem will have to be repaired for the light to shut off. Keep in mind, when the air bag light is illuminated the air bag system is deactivated. Meaning, in the event of a collision the bags won't deploy.

Air bag light blinks then syays on

If you mean the passenger airbag light no longer lights up and airbag light on the dash blinks at start-up and then stays on; the read the below and check this site:

I went to radio shack cost me $2.99 for 3 bulb packet. But the post below worked. It really didn't that long, pretty easy job. Took longer to find the tools. The first guys idea/fix, the second guy gave pretty good instructions. Just a little more detail: (3) the clips are one each side of the panel; (5) these two screws are on the inside lower part of module, (6) unclip the plastic tabs from the back (where the plug end is) first and it should lift up easily.

-------------
I had this happen on my 98 Ranger.(code 27) My light on the module that turns off the passenger side airbag was burnt out. I went to Radio Shack and bought a 12v light with wires attached and soldered them to the existing light.(didn't even take it out!) It fixed it!! Cost, about $1.50 and 20 minutes of fix time.

Note: If the light by the key switch to turn off the passenger side airbag does not work, it disables the entire airbag system! Hope yours is as easy to fix.

gerg,

Thanks for your post. I have no way to read codes, but I heard the five tone alarm every time I started the vehicle and the passenger air bag off light did not light up. I was skeptical, but tried your advice and it worked.

Parts:
1) 12-volt colored lamp (Radio Shack part: 272-1099)

Tools:
1) socket set
2) philips head screw driver
3) soldering iron

Procedure:
1) remove ash tray from console panel
2) using a socket set, remove 4 hex head screws from console panel
3) pull console panel out of the two clips
4) remove connector from air bag key module in console panel and take console panel to a work bench
5) remove 2 philips head screws to remove the airbag key module
6) carefully unclip the plastic tabs that hold the airbag key module case together
7) remove connector circuit board from air bag key module
8) solder the yellow replacement lamp to the two solder pads for the original lamp on the back side of the circuit board (which wire to which pad does not matter)
9) tie the replacement lamp in place next to the original lamp
10) replace the circuit board in the airbag key module and snap the case back together
11) connect the airbag key module in the truck and start the engine to check that the lamp illuminates and that the alarm does not sound
12) screw the aribag key module back into the console panel
13) snap the console panel back into the truck
14) replace the 4 hex head screws
15) replace the ash tray

2006 Taurus, airbag light flashes once, then eight times and repeats. I can hear something sliding around inside the steering wheel when I turn. Cruise control and horn don't work either. How do I...

i do not suggest to attempt repairing or diagnosing an air bag system without the proper tools or training. it is entirely possible (and has happened!) that the air bags can deploy inadvertantly upon diagnosis. however now that i have read you your safety rights.....there is no lamp fault code "8" the manner you speak of the flashing light is called a lamp fault code or LFC for short. there is a delay inbetween sequences of flashes. it may indicate a code "44" or maybe "18" or "13"..here are the descriptions of the codes i listed

13 Crash Data Memory Full INSTALL a new RCM and impact sensors.
18 PAD Warning Lamp Circuit Failure
44 Restraint System — Impact Sensor Status (Passenger Side Impact Sensor Circuit Failure
your air bag system is under manufacturers warranty for 5 years or 50,000 miles. i would encourage you to seek professional assistance from your local dealer. your life may depend on it!

good luck

1996 ford taurus GL

The air bag module monitors all of the electrical circuits of the air bag system. If it detects a fault in any of these circuits, it will cause the air bag light to come on. If it's flashing, count the number of flashes between pauses, this should be the diagnostic code the module is telling you what is wrong with the airbag system (or you can use a scan tool) The only way to keep the light off (besides removing it from dash) is to repair the fault, you can clear the code with the scantool, but it will come right back on if it still sees the fault.
