1999 pathfinder will not turn over after it gets hot. Weather here in n.c. has been in the 100's for weeks. Checked the starter it is fine. Could it be the fuel pump relay switch

Had the same problem two weeks ago. Changed the starter and everything is fine.

Can you turn the engine by hand ?
Is the battery fully charged and connections good between battery and starter ? During hot weather a battery can develop a dead cell which will cause it to have 12 volts but no cranking power.

Is your clutch fluid reservoir low? It's on the firewall, next to the brake master cylinder. If it's full, your clutch master cylinder or the clutch slave cylinder needs to be checked. One may have a weak seal that leaks internally..

I was having the same issue with my 95 GMC. I replaced the battery and alternator. It would start fine at times, at other times it would be sluggish. I finally took the starter off and had it checked. Turns out the starter was bad. When it would get hot, it would act as though the battery was dead. Replaced the starter and it has not acted up again. Have the starter checked. Replace if bad.

Get a new starter installed to solve this problem.
Get one with a lifetime warranty, if possible, for higher quality parts and performance in hot weather.

Does it shut off completely? How long does it take before it will restart?
Does this only happen when the engine is hot?
Has this problem gotten worse from a previous problem?
Do you always allow the fuel to get very low like below 1/8th of a tank?
Does it normally run well?
Better hot than cold or better cold than hot?

Check for good connections at the battery cables, Check the condition of the cables themselves and be sure that your fuse box is free from corrossion.
