First I was told my serpentine belt and tensioner needed to be changed, and now it's the timing chain. It sounds like there's some rattling going on in the mid driver's side corner.
If tensioner on timing chain worn or chain stretched will get a rattle noise and noise would be from behind serpentine belt and pulleys
It is behind the serpentine belt, in the upper mid driver side section. To the right of the engine, close to the firewall.
That would be timing chain
thats where the chain goes and the longer tensioner is that side

Could be the noise for the chain would be around the belts. It would be a rattle type noise. How many miles on vehicle
80,000. I've done regular oil changes with synthetic oil. The miles on the car are all highway miles, since I use it to commute to work. The mechanic says I don't need the belt, just the kit. I just need to be sure before I go through hoops.
Sorry, I meant chain instead of belt.
That's the timing chain. I would replace everything while it is apart including the chain. The problem is the tensioner is broken
