2003 Chevy Venture Wont start once warm.

Have already changed out crankshaft sensors and camshaft sensor, ICM and coils, spark plugs and wires, and it still wont restart after a short or long drive. no issues while running. What else could it be?

even a 03 PCM has enough smarts to allow for a live data monitor to be connected to it , you might not have one of these but im sure you can rent/borrow someone that does ?

What kind of oil pressure does it have (hot and cold) ??? there is a oil pressure sensor that needs to see oil pressure in order to enable the ign circuit I do think they (gm) stopped using it in maybe 04 because it caused so many problems in cold climates but it maybe as early as mid year 03 cant remember that far back

  • Randy Ohler Jul 27, 2016

I have to BS on this one JD. No one did this. I worked on 1960's to 2015's. Not one oil sending unit kept the car from starting.

that's not what I said , what it does it cks for oil pressure in so many seconds then shuts fuel pump off if not enough , like I said it was a bad idea so they didn't do it long

2005 Chevy Equinox, no start, no spark from the ignition coil.

You have dis ignition, correct? You have a coil pack, no distributor? Note the diagram. Take connector loose from icm, use both ends of test light between pink wire, voltage, and solid black wire, ground. Check with key on, If test light comes on, you have voltage and ground to icm and problem is elsewhere. Just a thought? good luck

Does a 2004 chevy venture van have a coil pack?

Your Van ? Yes it does !
• Ignition control module (ICM) and ignition coils
Three dual tower ignition coils are mounted to the ICM, and are serviced individually. The ICM performs the following functions:
- The ICM receives and processes the signals from the CKP sensor B.
- The ICM determines the correct direction of the crankshaft rotation, and cuts spark and fuel delivery to prevent damage from backfiring if reverse rotation is detected.
- The ICM determines the correct coil triggering sequence, based on the 7X CKP signal. This coil sequencing occurs at start-up, and is remembered by the ICM. After the engine is running, the ICM will continue to trigger the coils in the correct sequence.
- The ICM produces and inputs 3X reference signals to the PCM.
- The ICM contains the coil driver circuits that command the coils to operate.
• Crankshaft position (CKP) sensors
The CKP sensor B is a variable reluctance sensor. The magnetic field of the sensor is altered by a crankshaft mounted reluctor wheel that has seven machined slots, six of which are equally spaced 60 degrees apart. The seventh slot is spaced 10 degrees after one of the 60 degree slots. This sensor provides the ignition control module (ICM) with 7X signals, or seven pulses for each revolution of the crankshaft. The pulse from the 10 degree slot is known as the sync pulse. Both of the sensor circuits are connected to the ignition control module (ICM). A signal converter within the ICM produces digital 3X output pulse to the powertrain control module (PCM), the 3X reference is known as the low resolution engine speed signal.
The CKP sensor A contains a hall-effect switch. A hall-effect switch is a solid state switching device that produces a digital ON/OFF pulse when a rotating element passes between the sensor tip and a magnet. This rotating element is called an interrupter ring or blade. In this case the interrupter ring has 24 evenly spaced blades and windows and is part of the crankshaft damper assembly. This sensor provides the PCM with 24X signals, or 24 identical pulses per crankshaft revolution. The 24X signal is used for enhanced smoothness and idle stability at a lower calibrated RPM. The PCM supplies the sensor with a 12-volt reference, low reference, and signal circuit.
• Camshaft position (CMP) sensor
The CMP sensor signal is a digital ON/OFF pulse, output once per revolution of the camshaft. The CMP sensor does not directly affect the operation of the ignition system. The CMP sensor information is used by the PCM to determine the position of the valve train relative to the crankshaft position. By monitoring the CMP and CKP signals the PCM can accurately time the operation of the fuel injectors. The PCM supplies the sensor with a 12-volt reference, low reference, and signal circuit.

How can i find out what is wrong with my 1999 chevy tracker 2.0l.,when it runs for a while it wont start untill it cools, and back fires

Go to Autozone or one of them and get the trouble codes read. Probably something there, maybe a crank or cam position sensor code, or also could be something in the ignition system like a bad coil or the ignition control module. The ICM controls the ignition coils' circuit, both of these two items can go bad and then fail when warmed up. Backfiring, shaking, and coughing kinda sounds like a bad crank sensor, but that's just a guess. Check for trouble codes first.

GMC safari won't start, new coil, ICM, plugs (delco) Wires, cap, rotor, get's gas, new starter.

This just happened to my Dad's 1998 GMC Safari...

Firstly...

Check the hard vacuum line as previously noted by others.
If that's ok, then take off the intake pipe and spray brake clean into the throttle body while trying to crank it.

If it starts.. then you have a fuel related issue, if it doesn't start then you have an electrical related issue.

Our van did not start after trying to use brake clean.

Take off the console inside the vehicle's cab and get at the distributor.

Usually people noted that the ICM (ignition control module, inside the distributor) was the main issue here, but on our van, the distributor and wires looked brand new so it was probably recently changed (we got this van 5 months ago), so I assumed the spark plugs were also changed at the same time.

We unplugged the connection from the coil to the distributor, tried to crank it, and no spark was being generated, boom, got a new coil and starts up fine.

Just takes a bit of trial and error.

99 chevy g3500 wont start

do you have injector pulse? the "hall effect" you mentioned is the camshaft position sensor it times the injectors to the ignition fire. the coil is actually triggered by the crankshaft sensor . is the rotor turning while starter is engaged, if not the drive gear pin could be sheared and not getting the spark out to the wires.GOOD LUCK.

Engine stalls while driving

That would be a symptom of a crankshaft postion sensor going bad . Shorting out when heated up . But unfortunately thier are other sensors that can cause the same problem . Plus the ICM - ignition control module could cause that problem as well . OH yea , almost forgot you vehicle has two crankshaft position sensors . You best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop that has the diagnostic tools to trouble shoot the problem .
The electronic ignition (EI) system consists of the following components and wiring circuits:
• The ignition control (IC) module
• The ignition coils
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
• The 24X crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
• The 7X CKP sensor
• The camshaft position (CMP) sensor
The EI wiring circuits listed here use the following service common names. Between the IC module and the PCM:
• Low resolution engine speed signal
• IC timing control
• IC timing signal
• Low reference
Between the 7X CKP sensor and the IC module:
• CKP sensor (1) signal
• Low reference
Between the 24X CKP sensor and the PCM:
• Medium resolution engine speed signal
• 12-volt reference
• Low reference
Between the CMP and the PCM:
• CMP sensor signal
• Low reference
• 12-volt reference
The IC module also receives power and chassis ground through the following circuits:
• Ignition (1) voltage
• Ground

When it stalls check for spark , pull spark plug wires off the same coil an crank the engine . Is thier spark jumping from one coil tower to the other ? Make sure it's a lack of spark problem .

96 chevy cavalier had oil pressure issue. Later found it was due to bad crankshaft. Drive it to neighbors house and we pulled the engine and replaces the crank now once installed car is not getting any...

I ASSUME its a 2.2l VIN "4"? Better be SURE you put in the correct crank. Different years have different tone wheels for the Crank Sensor. If it ran before, it should run now. I think 2 wire connector is for power to coils Power to Pink wire comes from IGN fuse A. Pink is 12V, Black is ground, 6 wire plug is for ICM.(bolted to base of coil pack) cant bench test anything. Should be a code 42 if cranked for 5 seconds and no start if its a CKP issue.
