How many keys do you have ? To program new key's you need two already programed keys .
Key Programming -Program a Key Using Two Programmed Keys
NOTE: This procedure only works if two or more programmed ignition keys are available, and it is desired to program additional key(s). If two keys are not available, refer to Key Programming-Erase All Key Codes and Program Two Keys in this section.
NOTE: PID SPARE_ KY must be enabled for this procedure to operate. If this PID is not enabled, refer to Security Access-Procedure in this section. With scan tool, select Spare Key Programming Switch: Enabled.
NOTE: If the programming procedure is successful, the new key(s) will start the vehicle and the THEFT INDICATOR will illuminate for approximately three seconds.
NOTE: If the programming procedure is not successful, the new key(s) will not start the vehicle and the THEFT INDICATOR will flash. If the programming procedure was not successful, repeat the Key Programming procedure from Step 1. If the failure repeats, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section to review diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and perform pinpoint tests as required.
NOTE: A maximum of eight ignition keys can be programmed to a passive anti-theft system (PATS) equipped vehicle. Use PID NUMKEYS to determine how many keys are programmed to the vehicle.
NOTE: If the steps are not performed as outlined, the programming procedure will end.
NOTE: Ignition keys must have correct mechanical key cut for the vehicle and must be a PATS encoded key.

  1. Insert the first programmed ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN (maintain the ignition switch in RUN for one second).
  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the first key from the ignition lock cylinder.
  1. Within five seconds of turning the ignition switch to OFF, insert the second programmed ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN (maintain the ignition switch in RUN for one second).
  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the second key from the ignition lock cylinder.
  1. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, insert the un programmed ignition key (new key) into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN (maintain the ignition switch in RUN for 1 second).
  1. If it is desired to program additional key(s), repeat the applicable key programming procedure from the beginning.
If you don't have two programmed keys it won't work an sorry to say but you'll have to take it to the dealer or have a mobile automotive locksmith come an do it.

2002 lincoln ls want start because of anti theft system

Take it to a qualified repair shop , unless you have a factory scan tool an diagnostic information for PATS - fords anti-theft systems . Nothing you can do , no by-pass etc.... Or you could call a mobile lock smith , he mite be able too program a new key .

How to install ignition switch on 1996 lincoln continental

Most fords you turn the key to the on position and on the bottom of the steering column there should be a hole in the plastic take a screw driver stick it in the hole there's a little ball bearing in the ignition switch push it in and pull the ignition out at the same time. Also make sure your key doesn't have chip in it if it does you will need the key reprogrammed or have the new switch made to the old key if it has a regular key don't worry about the programming the car will not start if not programmed it will turn over but won't start theft light will flash

1999 Continental will not start

I think the anti theft anewer is correct. I have an extra key for my '99 Lincoln continental that apparently doesnt have whatever "chip" it needs in it. If you try to use that key it cranks but won't start. I don't know if the key "chip" can fail or not. Maybe a quick conversation with a lock smith will shed some light on the problem.
