No it's not the park neutral safety switch . It's the shift interlock system or what ever Chrysler calls it . It's a safety feature that won't let the transmission shift into gear unless you have your foot on the brake pedal .
What just clicks - explain ?
Transmission/Transaxle • Automatic - 41te • Shift Interlock System • Description
DESCRIPTION
The Brake Transmission Shifter/Ignition Interlock (BTSI) is a cable and solenoid operated system that prevents the transmission gear shifter from being moved out of PARK without a driver in place.
Refer to the following chart that expected shifter response, depending on ignition key/switch (Ignition Key/Switch Positions) and brake pedal positions.
Transmission/Transaxle • Automatic - 41te • Shift Interlock System • Operation
OPERATION
The Brake Transmission Shifter/Ignition Interlock (BTSI) is engaged whenever the ignition switch is in the LOCK or ACC position (Ignition Key/Switch Positions). An additional electrically activated feature will prevent shifting out of the PARK position unless the brake pedal is depressed at least one-half inch. A magnetic holding device integral to the interlock cable is energized when the ignition is in the ON position. When the key is in the ON position and the brake pedal is depressed, the shifter is unlocked and will move into any position. The interlock system also prevents the ignition switch from being turned to the LOCK position, unless the shifter is in the gated PARK position.
The following chart describes the normal operation of the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) system. If the ?expected response? differs from the vehicle's response, then system repair and/or adjustment is necessary.
ACTION EXPECTED RESPONSE
1. Turn key to the "ACC" position and depress brake pedal. 1. Shifter CAN be shifted out of park.
2. Turn key to the "ON" position, with foot off of brake pedal. 2. Shifter CANNOT be shifted out of park.
3. Turn key to the "ON" position and depress the brake pedal. 3. Shifter CAN be shifted out of park.
4. Leave shifter in any gear and try to return key to the "LOCK" position. 4. Key cannot be returned to the "LOCK" position.
5. Return shifter to "PARK" and try to remove the key. 5. Key can be removed (after returning to "LOCK" position).
6. With the key removed, try to shift out of "PARK". 6. Shifter cannot be shifted out of "PARK".
NOTE: Any failure to meet these expected responses requires system adjustment or repair.

On the console there should be a little door. If you open the door and use a narrow screwdriver in this hole it should allow you to take the car out of park. Be sure that you have your foot on the brake when you do this or the car may move.

This problem also happened to me. However, I found the part online that replaces the second pink lever. The new part is made of metal so the part will never break again. I made the emergency fix with the dremel, ordered the part, and a week later the part came. I am making the permanent fix today. Follow the link above to order the new part. It costs around 49.00 including tax and shipping. It will take you appx 2 hours to remove the shifter, change the part, and reinstall.
SOURCE: Is the neutral park safety
Yes. It sits right under the linkage on the front (depending on model of the transmission. Can be done in driveway, but will need a jack/jackstands. Takes about 1/2 hr.

It is part of the range sensor or PRNDL switch, if you like. It's the plug that comes out right next to the selector shaft on the front driver's side of the tranny. You will find several pins in the connector, but looking at it you will find that there is one pin missing. The missing one is #2, the one to the left is #1. The pin all the way to the right on that row is #5, the Park/Neut pin.

Your problem is the starter motor. Usually the bendix unit or so call solenoid or your starter has bad bearings.
CAUTION
Since you must work under the vehicle to adjust most shift linkages make sure you properly raise and support the vehicle before working under it. Also, wear safety glasses or goggles while working under the vehicle.
A voltmeter can be used to check the switch for voltage when the ignition key is turned to the START position with the shift lever in PARK or NEUTRAL. If there is no voltage, the switch should be adjusted or replaced.

Hi Kristi Crawford
No it is not the neutral safety switch, if that was the case it would not start at all. Do you mean you can't shift it out of park?
Sorry it will start. It won't slide out of park. I saw a video it may be a spring in console under the gear shift
