Does everthing still work , engine runs, fuel guage reads etc ? if so this wire may not be required , most vehicle manufacturers will use the same wiring looms on many different models, so some wires/connectors may not be required on every vehicle

do you mean engine doesn't turn over or doesn't fire up ? could be something other than fuel pump

  • nicole bearse Jun 26, 2016

The man that worked on it kept telling us to buy lots of stuff we didn't need. Admitted to never installing a fuel pump. Installed a new one today and it wouldn't crank

its difficult to say for definate without being with vehicle , what was the initial problem ? sorry but need to start at the begining of the problem with your vehicle, so a short description of what was first problem would be very helpful

Went to get gas. The gas light had been on for a lil while. Turned the car off put gas in. It never started again.

  • steve Jun 26, 2016

i would think its more to do with the fuel lines or injectors being blocked as ran low on fuel , the other thing that can happen is the ECU hasn't registered the fuel in the tank and thinks it is still low and is stopping engine starting , have you had the OBD read , this may have a code saved that needs clearing , hope this helps

  • nicole bearse Jun 28, 2016

I tried having the obd code read by two different people first one says system error the other says no link. What does that mean?

  • steve Jun 28, 2016

i would think you need to take vehicle to a nissan approved dealer , as these 2 OBD code readings can only be cleared by nissan approved equipment , as is most likely to be a problem of the ECU communicating with the rest of the vehicle sensors, switch's etc hope this helps

Hello, I am going to make a few assumptions here. The vehicle has an electric fuel pump and you replaced it. The vehicle has fuel injection. The engine is actually cranking, just not starting, when you say "car still won't crank". You are getting fire to the spark plugs at the plug ends. You checked the fuel pump for power at the pump. No power, then you back traced the wire to the fuse block and checked the fuse to see if it was blown. If the fuse is good back trace the power to the ignition switch and/or ECM for power. You have power at the pump, check the ground and make sure it is connected properly. Will the pump run when someone turns the key on? Pump runs, check fuel manifold for pressure. No pressure, check the fuel filter for blockage, or replace it. Fuel pump doesn't run, new replacement pump is defective. There is usually some type of control module for the fuel pump on fuel injected vehicles. Good Luck, RAC

The wires should be grey, orange and black, purple, and a black wire. The purple goes to purple, grey to gray. The orange and black goes to the small black wire on your car harness and the black goes to the bigger black.

Truck cuts off while driving. I replaced the fuel pump a few months ago. if i wiggle the wire harness it will restart

I have seen this and took me a long time to figure it out. The problem I have found was inside the plug on the wiring harness to the fuel pump. You can't see it unless you take the plug apart and it may be corroded inside. I don't know if this is your problem but check to see if you have power there and wiggle the wiring to see if it cuts out. Hope this helps.

2001 hyundai sonata starts up then cuts off while sitting still we have replaced the fuel pump fuel line and fuel filter..car stopped while driving

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Please do check the spark plugs as well. If the spark plugs have big gaps, corroded, covered with carbon or just faulty, it can cause fuel cut off. This is caused by fuel flooding and there's not enough current to burn the fuel. Do check the spark plugs and replace if necessary.

Another thing that can cause this issue is when the plug wires are worn out. If the plug wires are worn out, the current tends to jump which may cause current supply irregularities. I strongly suggest that you check and replace the plugs wires too.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

1995 nissan pickup truck fuel problem

Fuel injected or carb? Make sure fuel line itself is clear. Some pumps are designed to self regulate (carb systems) some continually pump and a psi regulator sends back the excess fuel back to the tank (fuel inj systems) If the line is obstructed then pump can't deliver fuel fulltime.

If you think pump is not on consistent, try running a dedicated wire through a switch directly to the pump. If it works then you are looking for an electrical fault going to pump. Good luck.

Intermittent fuel pump engagement when turning key - 2001 Taurus

try cleaning the connector that goes to the fuel pump, sometimes they corrode on inside. If that does not fix, test the wires feeding fuel pump with a multi meter until the condition shows itself again, if voltage drops to zero or very low then wiring problem, if voltage is unchanged with problem and fuel pump is not working and connectors are all clean, try replacement of fuel pump.

Probably, also, if it's an electric, check to make sure the pump is actually getting power. The wires may have gone bad.
