Cadillac's are basically GM. If you think it is security, Do a reset. Turn the key on for ten minutes, off for thirty seconds. Try to start. Sometimes it needs a relearn. Three times the reset, start after the third time. Have a battery charger on it. If you accidentally hit the start, you have to start over.
Is the security light lit ? Car an pad lock symbol . If any of these are lit it is the anti-theft system . Does the engine crank over but won't start an run ? The anti-theft system will allow the engine to crank but not start , disables fuel injectors . If the anti-theft light is lit there are DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes stored in the theft deterrent module an or the ECM .
Does anything happen when you turn the key to the start position ?
Thnx for replying
The pad lock symbol goes away it dont stay lit up... but the other day it turned on randomly when i was pulling up to my house thats why im hoping its something to do with that. I forget what i did i turned the car off an it was fine.
But today i say in the car for maybe 10 min i put the radio on for about 10 min then just took my key out.
Now i when i try starting it... all the lights on the dash come on the radio but it turns an im gettin nothing at all. Not even a clicking sound. I tried jumpin it but no help.
I wonder if me sittin in the car with the key turned earlier triggerd the secure feature or something
I would check the battery connections .Is the battery good ? No I don't think sitting in the car trigger the security feature. The anti - theft system has nothing to do with this .If it doesn't even click when you try to start it there is no control or power to the starter . Do you know what a relay is ? In the under hood fuse / relay center is the starter relay ! If you pull the relay out of the box an look on the bottom you'll see four sets of numbers . 30 - 87 85 - 86 With the key off , take a piece of 12 gage wire an jump 30 to 87 in the fuse box where the relay plugs into . If the starter is good an the B+ cable to the starter is also good the engine will crank .Not start , just crank . You have to make sure you have the spots in the fuse box when you do this . If you get it wrong you can fry the engine computer . An that can cost $800.00
This is a very complex system , I really think your best bet is to take it to the Cadillac dealer or some other qualified repair shop . I 'm talking from experience , I have thirty years fixing automobiles. Chevy , Cadillac , Pontiac an Buick dealers .
Circuit Description
Moving the ignition switch to the START position sends a 12-volt signal to the engine control module (ECM) to command starting. Battery voltage also travels through the switch side of the Run/Crank relay then through the clutch switch, if equipped with manual transmission, and on through the coil side of the Starter relay and then to the ECM. The ECM receives class 2 information from the vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) and transmission control module (TCM) to verify that all parameters are met for starting. When all parameters are met the ECM grounds the control circuit of the Starter relay closing the switch providing battery voltage to the starter solenoid through a 30 A Maxi-Fuse.
I dont know man i just tried a couple different things to reset it but still just turning an gettin nothing but everything is still lighting up
Aaa guy just told me he thinks it's the starter an thats the last thing i wanted to hear
sorry to hear that ,but to be sure do a starter circuit voltage drop test . Watch this video https://youtu.be/XhRPLgH6uZg
Yea a buddy of mine went under the car an tapped the starter an i still couldn't start it battery full an everything
Parts gonna cost me $130 i think
Some1 told me the starter was around the engine an hard to get to but he jacked the car up an got to the starter like that. So hopefully he can do it easy. Does that sound right to you guys?
Tnx for the replies
Depending on the engine the Cat has to come off to get at it
