I think the M130 engine uses a timing chain. To get you timing marks set up correctly you mignt have to take the top rocker cover off to see the Cam timing marks.
The Crank should be set up to the centre 'OT' mark for Top Dead Centre, (TDC). there is a set of numbered marks either side of it. The pulley is marked for both Top Dead Centre and Bottom Dead Centre, (BDC). Being a Mercedes the marks are in German. OT for TDC and UT for BDC.
set mark on crankshaft to TDC mark on timing cover. set mark on cam pulley to align with mark on head .if more than one mark on pulley rotate by hand till exhaust and inlet just rocking then align closest marks .
its not just the camshaft timing marks you set up, you also have to have the crankshaft timing mark set right to or you may damage your engine
check the internet for the right timing procedure for you model car ok
Hello! Timing is set using the RED mark...It is the middle mark in the equally spaced group of three marks...Set with engine at normal operating temperature...All vacuum lines connected...670 RPM...
set the timing mark on the crankshaft to the mark on the oil pump, then set the timing mark on the camshaft to the mark on the alternator bracket/set second camshaft mark to mark on the inner timing belt cover. line up all mark as decribed. be sure before u set anything to bring #1 piston all the way up to top. with belt on turn crankshaft 2 full turns to bring #1 piston back to top if the cams are not lined up correctly loosen belt and start over again until everything lines up correctly. you may have to do this a few times but it will work.
Installation Ensure timing marks aligned [6] & [7] . 1. Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets. 2. Slacken tensioner pulley bolt [8] . Push tensioner pulley firmly against timing belt to tension belt. 3. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt [8] . Tightening torque: 43-55 Nm. 4. Except Matrix: Turn crankshaft one turn clockwise. 5. Matrix: Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise. 6. Ensure timing marks aligned [6] . 7. Apply a load of 2 kg to belt at . Belt should deflect 4-6 mm. If not: Adjust position of tensioner pulley. 8. Install components in reverse order of removal. 9. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt [2] . Tightening torque: 170-180 Nm
7 is timing mark on cam,pin mark to top, hole in spoke below pin mark lines up with mark on head
6 is crank timing mark, pin mark on crank lines up with mark on block
NOTE this mark is just before top
Put the engine at TDC compression stroke , Thats when the valves are
both closed on No 1 cyl and the piston is on its compression stroke
.then align all cam and crank marks. set distributor/rotor button on No 1 cylinder (rotor
pointing at #1 plug wire) . rotate engine 2 revolutions and recheck all
marks. Fire away
timming marks on cams face each other 3 and 9 o clock crank mark at about 6 o clock mark in cover and sump auto adjuster arrow should be in v mark to set this requires turning water pump by loosening water pump bolts slightly be warned some times this causes pump o ring seal to leak if turning.
