My Audi Q7 3.0tdi does not want to start after I cleaner oil from the inlet pipes; turbo, egr and intercoolers

Hi everyone my Audi Q7 3.0tdi had a power problem, after i read the similar issues and solutions from the audi forums i checked the airflow system and the airflow meter pipe going to the Turbo was loose not bolted at all, breather pipe to the turbo was throwing oil in the turbo and through the airflow system to the intercoolers and the EGR was staffed with carbon deposits, I then opened all the pipes and cleaned evrything even the egr, took out almost 2Lts oil from the coolers and reassembleb everything back now the car does not want to start only swinging. I called a guy to scan it and picked up Turbo underboost; low fuel pressure and P2011 something to do with inlet flap motor. The turbo underboost and low fuel pressure was cleared but not P2011, car still not starting and i checked the flap motor is working fine. PLEASE HELP ANYONE

How many km/miles on that engine

low fuel means check or replace diesel fuel pump and fuel filter

thats way too much oil and carbon loose in the system
turbo may have an internal crack
have it checked out
cant be repaired if cracked better to fit a new turbo

that codes a problem P2011 .. there are flaps in the intake manifold controlled by the ECU not sure if it is the non start issue but could be ........ if the flaps are also slugged up with oil they get stuck ..intake manifold may have to come off ...http://www.obd-codes.com/p2011

  • magna buff May 31, 2016

The code is referring to a fault that has occurred in a set of air control flaps inside the intake manifold. These flaps are designed to create a specified amount of turbulence within the manifold that is transformed into a 'swirling' effect. By creating a swirling of the intake air, the pulsations created by the intake valve opening and closing is nullified and the quality of the air fuel mixture is improved. Low end torque is improved and the formation of Nox is reduced as well with the use of these flaps. The electronic control module (ECM) controls the position of the swirl flaps with the use of an intake manifold runner control solenoid valve after referencing the signals from the mass air flow sensor (MAF) and the barometric pressure sensor. When the ECM determines where to position the swirl flaps, it uses 'pulse width modulation' to control the intake runner control solenoid.

Thanks for your explanation Magna, can this cause the car not to start and also can the QUICK START spray be used to force start these engines?

  • magna buff May 31, 2016

flaps or not ...it should at least try to fire ... you can try a quick spray .if it does start ....only tells you it has spark and compression

Thanks Magna, Will first open the inlets and double check and clean the swirl flap especially the Bank2 since the code is refering to it and I did not clean this one when I was doing cleanup I only cleaned Bank1 on the Turbo side. I will let you know of the outcome. Thanks for your helpful comments.

With the Audi and Lamborghini brands, the Audi Group has long been one of the most successful car manufacturers in the premium and super car segment. Since 2012, motorbikes from the traditional Italian brand Ducat have supplemented the range. Furthermore, the Audi Group also supplies other Volkswagen Group brands to customers via sales companies. check for blockages in the air filter system. replace the air filter. The only way that oil can get in to the turbo inlet hose is if the turbo is running in a vacuum and sucking oil fast the turbo seals Unless the turbo bearings are shot.

Tip

Intercooler and EGR problem

Sometimes people get this low power and smoke problem in a turbodiesel car with an intercooler. Once it is not your injectors or turbo gone, you can solve it without buying new intercooler or EGR valve. You can actually clean them. It does take few hours of your time but cost you much less. All you need is few hours of time, a gallon (4-5liters) of diesel and same of petrol (better naphta but its hard to get in some places). First you need to take of the intercooler which might involve removing front bumper in some cars. Once you have it out, put it on the ground (do not damage the core) and fill it up with diesel. Cover the inlet and outlet (best with balloons) and leave it for few hours. Meantime you can take care of the EGR valve and inlet manifold. Using petrol and soft brush clean all visible parts but do not fill EGR with petrol too much as it must be complete dry before you put it back. Do same with the inlet manifold, just clean that oil/smoke build up. It is slagish but getting rid of it will add your engine extra kW/Bhp and some life to it. When you finish cleaning and drying the EGR and manifold your intercooler should have been a little "washed" by the diesel inside, shake it a little bit, the "balloons" should stop the diesel from spilling out, and leave it for 2-3 hours. After that time empty the diesel out of it and fill it with petrol (naphta) to wash out remainings of dirt and diesel, do it couple of times while shaking until the liquid is more cleaner, than dry the inner of the intercooler, make sure it is completely dry and as clean as possible as anything that will be wet with diesel may cause some serious problem. After drying and putting everything back, leave it for a while before starting the engine, this is to make sure that whatever remained undry will vapourize. Remember when you start the engine do not rev it up just leave it at idle for 10-20 minutes. This will add temperature that will dry up anything you've missed and not cause any damage as there will be not enough pressure. After this operation you will notice a change in the car's performance.

Intercooler line floaded with oil

CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL IN ENGINE INCASE OVER FILLED THIS WILL SUCK IT INTO ENGINE, IF OK CHECK YOUR ENGINE BREATHER TO SEE IF BLOCKED CAN CAUSE BACK PRESSURE IN ENGINE AND START BLOWING OIL SEALS AND GASKETS, AND THE 1ST TO GO IS THE TURBO SEALS, YOU CAN REMOVE AIR INTAKE PIPE TO TURBO AND CHECK FINS INSIDE TURBO WITH YOUR FINGERS TO SEE IF ANY MOVEMENT IN SHAFT. PLEASE DO THIS WITH ENGINE TURNED OFF :)

When you step on the gas, you hear loud air pressure, and it lacks power

I am assuming yours is a Turbo? because it sounds like an air pipe has blown off, have a poke arround under the hood, try and locate the turbo (I know it is tight under there) and follow the pipe to the intercooler, make sure the worm drive clips are on and tight, then follow the pipe (about 3 inch diameter) to the inlet, make sure the pipes and intercooler are intact. Did anything happen just before this problem? any work done or anything run over>

Hi my audi 1.9 tdi is losing power badley the acceliration totaly went its just had a new turbo so i dont think its the turbo. I,ve been out in the car a few times and the problem seems to come and go...

If somebody replaced the turbocharger with a new one, you must check up all command vacuum lines, the entire air intake system (air pressure pipes, intercooler, connections, EGR - throttle vane, ...), and also turbocharger and EGR command solenoid valves (three pieces). Could be also MAF sensor defective! Here you have the vacuum air pipes connection picture for Audi A4 1.9 TDI (AJM engine):

There is oil in my 2004 BMW 320d return pipe from the intercooler to the intake manifold and smoke when started.

simple. the trubo bearing/seal (probably more the seal) is stating to go and that is leaking oil into the return pipe. take pipe off and have a look at the turbo and see if you can see any oil leaking from inside of it. also oil in the intercooler = bad clean out after fixing the turbo = use solvent or something to dissolve oil but make sure you let the intercooler dry out before re-installing it
