The starter circuit goes through the gear sensor, and possibly other switches. If any are open, current doesn't make it to the starter. If Park doesn't work, try Neutral, as a test. If you can find a location for the shifter where it cranks, that would suggest the switch has come loose or shifted its position from where it should be.
Are there any starter noises, such as the click of the starter when you attempt to start? If a click or a chatter, the battery may be low.
Won't start how ? When you turn the key to the start position does the starter spin the engine ? Or not ? This would be a no crank - no start condition ! Or when you turn the key to start the starter spins over the engine but it doesn't start an run ? This is a crank - no start condition . Both have very different diagnostic testing procedures ! An what won't say anything ? Is there a car an padlock symbol lit on the instrument cluster ?
Is the security light lit on the instrument cluster ? Let's clear up some of your info ! Won't start as in the engine cranks over an won't start or engine will not crank over no start ? The starter has to crank over the engine for it to start an run ! An depending on which it is , it changes the whole diagnostic routine !
If you turn the key and the lights dim suspect the battery. If you turn the key and the lights do not dim but the starter does not crank the engine over suspect starter trouble
car wont crank or car wont start? I would say your battery cables are bad,, acid gets in from battery and erodes internal cable parts... need a Meter to check it out.. put the meter on battery while someone tries to start it, if the voltage drops from 13.5 to 10 then it is trying to turn over, I always have the new starters tester before I leave a store, they are remanufactured in Malaysa and they use old parts in most of them..
do you have smart lock? picture of a red hand in instrument panel? im sure they do. If so ****** in park hold key to start position & hit dash upwards & inwards on the left hand side of the steering colum if the problem is the smart lock module it will start. Common prob with fords & that is the cheap fix it will work every time you have the problem
