After about 350 miles of highway driving, car rpm appeared to surge w/o corresponding fluctuations in speed. Worsened until 4k rpm for 60 mph. Pulled into gas station. Waited an hour for a mechanic, but problem had disappeared. Suspected cause was a stuck canister valve. Problem has not recurred for last 300 miles. Suggestions?

remove the front 02sensor and drive the car like that, remove means complety take it apart from exaust, if problem goes away or gets so much better then your catalitic converter at the exaust is restricted and need a new one

You need to have your engine flushed and cleaned out. One or more of your spark plugs aint firing. You need to replace them all to include the wires as well. If you dont get your engine flushed, you could blow your engine up.

Battery not charging well when airconditioner on ( also engine speed not increase when air conditioner on )
Miles? Have you replaced ignition coils recently? Pretty good chance that they could be going bad. I would start by swapping all 8 coils and plugs and probably changing the valve cover gasket as well as those are known to go bad in the 2000-2003 LS
