You have a leaking engine cyclinder head gasket.

Catalitic convertor needs replaced, if this an automatic trans you willexperience shiftinf problems abd loss of power.

It is ok to run without a muffler, beside the noise level, it will not hurt the vehicle.

either your fuel filter is clogged up or you catalytic converter is clogged . change your filter first it is cheaper and prolly needs one most don't change them.you can also test the cat with a gauge that replaces the o2 sensor that any local muffler shop can test for ya.

There are several ways to do this effectively. Try FIRST a trip to a local parts house, e.g. Autozone, Advanced Auto etc. They have several things available to accomplish that task. I do not recommend a coathanger. Thanks for calling on FixYa.com

there are 4 o2 sensors. one on each bank after the cat. converters, one before the muffler and one on the muffler.

chances are it one of the o2 sensors by the cat converters.

check you Mass Air Sensor and replace spark plugs, because there is probably something simple that wrecked your o2 sensor in the first place and it will help your vehicle run and last longer. It could be more complicated, like a vacuum leak cuz honda civics are known to have head gaskets replaced.

But i guess first you need to figure out which o2 sensor it is.

changing your cat. convert. is quite a project I recomend take your vehical to a muffler shop

This rtequires seat removal in order to gain acces to the buck side mounting bolt

inspect and or replace the drivers door lock actuator...

go to a muffler welding shop for install !!!
