More than likely the synchronizers are going out, they allow you to move from gear to gear without damaging transmission.
SOURCE: transmission
Hey i just had the same problem with my car. the 3rd gear shift fork was broke off in the transmission in my car. however it might just be ur shift linkage. you can check to make sure the pin is moving in and out of the tranny from underneath the car (laying on the ground its on the left side just before the echaust bends to go up to the headers.) and if it is moving it most likely is the shift fork.
But after i had my transmission done my factory keyless entry, interior lights, and headlight door buzzer (when u get out of the car with the lights on) does not work.... also my odometer trip meter resets itself everytime i shut my car off. im still working on finding out what that is.
Check the shift cable that goes between the shifter and the transmission. If it's damaged internally it will not move properly and the condition you stated will be a symptom. Easiest way to check it is to disconnect the transmission end of cable and see if it moves freely. If not, replace it.
