Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. You can't do any testing if battery is down. Forget the jumping. Also, check your charging system.
Does starter motor crank? If not, check wiring circuits for the starter motor. Any testing at the starter, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and functional parking brake is set, Safety is your responsibility.
If you have a digital multimeter, you can do some testing. If the battery is down, put a charger on it.
Sometimes if battery voltage is lost, it can effect your security system. I haven't looked to see if it will effect your starter motor?

Van was running fine, went into store, and when I came back out, heard clicking sound when I opened door, van would not start

only thing i can think of trying is to use the key to lock and then unlock the drivers door, this will disarm the security system/engine immobilizer

2000Toyota RAV4. stalled. wont start.

I don't want to be a prophet of doom but it sounds like the timing belt jumped a tooth. If it did the noise you heard would have been the valve touching the piston. If it went another tooth the engine will not start. You need to check the timing, correct it and try and start it. If it either locks up or won't start you probably have a bent valve.

okay try this....talk to your parts store and get a battery load tester, and find out if the battery is indeed dead. My guess is it sounds like the Altenator is dying. they are around 50-100 and can be install by a pro in minutes.
