I just replaced bank 1 oxygen sensor and bank 2 oxygen sensor. Why is my car show codes P0133 and P0171?
Hi Michael, After fixing errors you need to reset your computer by disconnecting the battery for a minute or two, Also you'll need your radio code to reset your radio, I hope this helped...........CHEERS..
Testimonial: "I will look into this but first I will try resetting with a dtc scan tool. Thanks Mike T."
Code p0133 refers to several reports
1--heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 1 bank 1 ---slow response---heating slow response===causes --heating inoperative---wiring--- HO2S
2---oxygen sensor(O2S) 1 bank 1---slow response====causes ---wiring O2 sensor
3--heated oxygen sensor(HO2S) 1 bank 1--no signal===cause--wiring ---HO2S
the HO2S is the one in the manifold or exhaust pipe before the cat converter at the back side of the engine ( firewall side)
I suspect that the small wires into the HO2S sensor will be damaged requiring the replacement of that sensor --use the correct socket to prevent wire damage
code p 0171 refers to system too lean bank 1===causes intake/exhaust leak--AIR system---MAF/VAF sensor, fuel pump pressure/pump---injectors ---HO2S
because the mixture is controlled by reports from the HO2S I would consider inspecting the wires to that unit and replacing it as faulty
IT features in both codes
Testimonial: "This is very detailed information. I will certainly take my time and find a trusted mechanic to check these things you mentioned. Providing a dtc scanning tool to reset the codes so the computer can reflect the repairs made is not successful. Thank You! Mike T."
use the scan tool to reset the ecm as disconnecting the battery as suggested wipes radio codes and will some times affect the cpu program in the ECM creating all sorts of faults
there is a large difference between a O2 sensor and a HO2S sensor and it is very possible that you replace the wrong sensor

System Too Lean (Bank 2)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Thanks.
