SOURCE: white smoke and oil goes frum muffler

White smoke can be several things, the first of which depending on the temperature is condensation while another is coolant leaking into the combustion chamber or oil though oil will give the smoke a blueish tint. Oil drops in the exhaust is not normal and is a sign that there is an oil leak into the combustion chamber(s) possibly resulting from a leaking gasket or a cracked head/block/manifold. It is possible that you may have both coolant and oil leaking and you can check by first looking at the dipstick to see if there is any light brown or white foam on the dipstick. You can also check the radiator after it has cooled to see if your missing any coolant and if there is any oil in there. Another thing to do is start pulling the spark plugs one at a time and checking to see if one or more is either covered in oil or is noticeably clean and shiny, oily is obvious while clean indicates coolant.

Additives such as restore will not solve your problem neither will stop leaks which are nothing more than bandaids for bullet wounds so it would be best to get your vehicle checked out by a reputable mechanic or shop.

Smoke is coming out of the tail pipe even when the car is at driving temp. The smoke is not black

is it a bluish grey color smoke? if so then your motor is burning oil. you will need atleast a ring job to solve this.

is it a white smoke? if so then it is evaporating water, whish could be any number of things the worst being a possible cracked head or blown head gasket. or it could be something as simple as moisture in your muffler evaporating.

check your oil and coolant level, check for milky looking oil.

hope this helps, have a good day.

Morning White Smoke At Start-up (2003 4cyl Camry)

This problem is common but often over looked. Moisture vapor is a grayish white color but it dissipates very quickly. Smoke that is grayish white is caused specifically from burning oil. The problem you have is a small seal called a valve seal. It is very common in cars that sit a fair amount of the time. The seal gradually starts to leak and allow tiny drops of oil to drip into the combustion chamber. When the engine is started then it smokes until the oil is burned. Due to the amount of time that your car smokes after start tells me that the leak is very small. That is why there is no oil consumption. This is not going to harm the car unless it becomes very bad and then the only thing that would happen is more smoke and fouled plugs. You can start using a heavier weight oil and add an oil treatment to the oil when you have it changed. This may evin stop it all together. Hope this answered your question. Please rate this solution if you think it has helped. Good luck and thanks cj2176.

Changed spark plugs in 97 buick lasabre and now it cranks and runs, but white smoke coming out. Is that blown head gaskets? Does it have anything to do with the fuel pump my mechanic put on 3 weeks ago???

You need to check the oil with the dipstick (wipe in down a few times) to see if it looks like a chockalate milk shake. If coolent has made its way into the oil you have blown head gasket. The fuel pump which is usually in the gas tank in most gm vehicles would not cause white smoke, if it failed you car would not start because your engine would not get any gas to the injectors
