Why car wont pick up speed when i get to 40mph then jerks and pick up speed

Does it down shift appropriately when accelerating? Normally when you stomp on the gas while in a high gear (travelling at 40mph), the transmission will downshift to a lower gear giving the car much more torque. This can cause the car to jolt or jerk forward and accelerate suddenly.

If this is way off base and you\'re experiencing something else, please let me know

1993 Mustang 2.3L Trouhble(again); It's slugish at accelerating from a stop(some times falling on its face and dieing), jerks at highspeeds when trying to accelerate, and has hard starts. Any help

All the above problems were happening to my truck, and the engine light never did come on. Finally changed the O2 sensor, and it runs like new again.

Running rough and jerking on acceleration

Depending on what kind of truck you have it may be the distributer. I have a 72 ford pk and same problem. Changed points and same problem. Changed distributer and fixed problem.

Hyundai Atos ( manual) dosen't pick up speed and jerks

Hi there, it could be a change of spark plugs will solve your problems. I'm driving one too but found that it jerked when accelerating. So I read up and presumed that the old plugs might be the cause. After changing new spark plugs, it doesn't jerk anymore.

Sluggish acceleration, frequent jerking and engine knock at high RPM

Sounds to me like the timing is off! it COULD be bad gas though! run that tank through, and refill, then see how it feels!

2000 corolla sluggish when accelerating, fine at higher RPMs

Try changing out your distributer cap and rotor button. Let me know if that solves your problem.

5 speed manual transmission sluggish and jerking during accellera

wqithout looking at it directly , could be neglect to the car it self, clean them batt, cables not just the outside of them take them off the battery . clean the right , ck the wires make sure thay are also not corroided , as for the running like **** , sounds lik maybe a vacuum line came off , could be bad sparlk plugs wires etc, if it just happened in a spur of the moment thing , I would ck those vacuum hoses , something like tha will make it run like you are saying , tune it up , plugs and wires etc, clean it so you can see it .listen for any strange noise and do be carful
